Hey guys
just bought a VS statesman 5.0 and ive noticed during the first few minutes of a trip the speedo likes to drop away and not show the correct speed, usually just sitting on zero
not something i really wanted, upgraded to a newer car to get away from this kind of thing. any ideas on what might cause it??
and also, is this likely to be an unroadworthy thing? if it is, ill take it back coz the roady was done a week ago, they can fix it..
thanks
Trent
is the car running properly still? this happened to me and my car wasnt running right also. and it was the alternator. so check your electrical first before you decide to start playing with the cluster.
It can be the fuse for the speedo sender/reverse lights? or the sender itself
same thing just started happening in my stato too!!
its just random but everything is running fine revs/fuel/temp all sits good
just speedo sometimes chucks a fit..
im thinking its an earth or something
mine too developed a '0' reading yesterday (acclaim vs), a bang over the dash fixed it... similar to the fuel gauge 'stickiness'
if your car is running fine, id say there is a problem with the connection between the ECU and the dash cluster. its possible that the wiring on the back of the cluster has become cracked and chipped a bit off. had this happen to my VN.
if the car is running crap, then the problem is probably between the gearbox and the ECU, as the signal goes from gearbox to ECU to cluster

just asked the mechanic across the road at work, he reckons its most likely wiring, contacts in the dash, if the tap fixes it, which it does in mine.
lucky mine was roadworthied last week, they can fix it for me coz it aint roadworthy if the speedo doesnt work properly
