Default torque converter or something else?

    G'day,

I had some bits put in my gearbox a while ago.

B&m stage2 shift kit, .490 boost valve, and corvette servo.

Not long(maybe 2-2.5 months) afterwards I started to notice a grinding sound at abot 90 kmh when accelerating, sometimes it hapens sometimes it doesn't, it seems to happen more when hot.

I've been told it *could* be my torquey.

Does anyone have any idea if it is the torque converter?

Also how do I check it?

Is there anything else it could be?

Also how to fix? Replace? Rebuild?
    What are my options?

    Cheers, and thanks for reading.

Can I just remove the wire fron the solenoid that locks up the convertor?

No use cutting the wire that locks the TQ as its happening when accelerating which is when the TQ is not locked. First thing that I'd check is whether any part of the engine/trans/diff is hitting the body. Worm/damaged mounts will allow this.

I'm not naysaying, but I was led to believe that between 90 & 104( on a standard tune) that the torque convertor was "locked" to save fuel as 4th gear does come into it until 104kmh. 3rd being a 1:1 ratio the torque convertor locks up preventing a kick back to 2nd or an upshift to 4th.

    Is this not correct?

I will have a look tomorrow.

Also forgot to mention, when it does happen car does not get faster as it usually does, the more I push the accelerator down the louder and faster the noise.

That destroys the engine/trans hitting the body suggestion!...I cannot offer any more suggestions - sounds more like a TQ failure though.

Is there anyway I can test it?
Will it show up on efilive?

I have another TC but I don't wanna spend a day changing it over just to find out its not the TC.

Thanks for your help man, much appreciated.

Have a look at this link...the TQ diagnosis sounds similar to yours:

    Also this link:

    And finally this excellent explanation:

    Good Luck.
