you can repace the ignition switch seperate from the ingntion barrell and it shouldnt cost an arm and a leg either.
its the barrel thats stuffed, not the switch.
you will need a new barrel, which if you like consistancy will mean new boot, door and glovebox locks, and a few new keys.
It is possible to disassemble the new switch and put the old pins in - some barrels come with an assortment of pins and you adjust to match your key....or take the old key and new barrel to a locksmith but be prepared to pay.
It won't be a faulty ignition switch or lock assembly. The part that is probably broken is the drive pin that actuates the ignition switch. It's cast as part of the lock assembly and because the lock is only made of lightweight alloy, the pin eventually snaps off in the ignition switch. You will usually find that when the pin breaks, it leaves you with the switch in the ignition position, but the key and barrel continue to turn to the start position anyway.
The fix is a new lock assembly with the lock case, because the broken drive pin is part of the case. No other fix is feasible.
thanks all for your help
the drive pin is not part of the case they are 2 different things, the drive pin attachers to the tumblers which it what gets turned with the key. the case or barrel lock's in to the lock assembly. and they are still both a serviceable item a whole kit cost about 75 dollars and if you are clever you can code it your self.
