I have slotted rotors front and back on me VS, the car has ABS and i was wondering if havening ABS with slotted rotors would make the car kinda shudder but not harsh as in shudder to the **** house lol. the steering wheel has no shudder or the brake peddle its just i can hear the shudder noise and feel it in the seat and vibration in the rest of the car......weird...im wondering if its just the pads scrapping the slots on teh disks but still?
it...has done it since i got the disks, it happenens mainly when i brake medium to hard but not hard enough for ABS to cut in.
i did check for warped disks etc and all seemed fine (checked with proper tool)
also can slotted disks be machined?
cheers
did you install them your self??
because i thinking that the disc and rotors may have not gone thru the bedding process properly
If you can't feel any shuddering then it's probably not a problem worth worrying about.
What you could be hearing is the gassing off through the slots which is even louder if you have crossed drilled.
When I first fitted slotted rotors years back I noticed how noisey they were when braking in the Sydney Harbour tunnel.

If you are wanting to test your theory remove the abs fuse and test. The abs will be disabled and if the problem exists you know it is nothing to do with the abs. Just remember this is potentially very dangerous and you should install the fuse again immediately after. Im not responsible in anyway should you choose to try this out.
but yeh i installed them myself with pads that came with the disks as it was from another car
i don't think it has anything to do with the abs. ABS only kicks in when it detects a lockup. It has to be related to the rotors or pads. As they are second hand they are likely to have bedded in on the donor cars setup so they wont run true on your car. Maybe try rubbing the pads on concrete and bedding in again, or get a new set of pads.
yeh thinking of doing that
also i went and tested it again and it does have some vibration in the steering wheel but only slightly when going over bumps etc....but i can just hear it more then i can feel it..
but i can live with it as yeh at least it stops.....there was no way in hell i would have stoped in me old VN at some of the test braking i have done in the VS lol
ABS light will come on because the system is off, but will return to normal once the fuse is reinstalled.
update...well i put new pads on the front etc its been good for a while but has beacome worse now.
Now the steering wheel shakes side to side when brakeing from 80<.
can slotted disks be machined? as i have her u need special machining equipment to machine them (compared to stock disks)
I dont think they need anything special to machine slotted rotors. Just take them to your local mechanic and he will probably machine them there on the spot.
ah ok didnt think so
what im gonna do first is put standard rotors on (the ones that came off it) and see if its teh backs or fronts...pretty sure it would be the front. and if its not the rotors the only other thing it could be is the rack as everything on the front end is new (ball joints tie rod ends, struts, springs, strut bearings and mounts, stabaliser bars rubbers, radius rod bushes) and back is all new
i know the center bearing in the tail shaft looks a bit suss....replacing that on sunday though
'
cheers
cheers
Just be sure to put the old ones back on the same way they came off originally as they may(or may not) sit just slightly differently if its a bolt hole of 2 out to how they originally were and you will have a vibration still, but see how ya go. Even if it jst changes how the vibration feels you can atleast get an idea that its the rotors causing the issue
cheers will be doing it tomorrow...have to work today![]()
