The Getrag was standard on series 11 VS so it must fit. Trouble is they have a clutch and flywheel which is expensive to overhaul however if you're buying new or in A1 order then thats no problem. The money it will cost to overhaul may be more than the money required to buy the same car with the Getrag fitted already without all the hassles.

Hako sorry for jumping off topic here, what do you do for a living, how do you know all of this.

Some of you guys on this forum are just unbelievable and the thing is there are so many like you.

I have spent hours and hours over the last few weeks sifting through old posts and threads on the forums and was blown away by the ammount of information, I wish someone had been indexing it all from day one.

Any who thats just my little rant, back on topic.

Go to the HOWTO section and ahvea read of the complete manual conversion guide, either the T5 or the Getrag will work fro your VS the T5 can be easier to maintain but might need it more often, thats my understanding anyway.

Thanks DannyboyDS, but really the only asset I've got is experience plus an enquiring mind. I'm retired now after 45 years tracking weather balloons for a living (beat that!). I too am amazed at what comes up on this forum from its members - we all share a love of cars and helping each other.
    Regards

Sounds like an excellent project - take plenty of pictures especially about any problems with the way you overcome them. Good Luck.
