Have a VR CALAIS with IRS & LSD (i think)
Completely stock, apart from cold air intake..
What can i do for affordable performance upgrades.?????
Are better spark plugs going to do much?
Should i get extractors, before doin the cat back?
does a cat back exhaust give much more power etc?
is a new computer going to cost me the earth?
etc etc![]()
what ur talking about wont give more noticable power but always good to keep the car running well,
oil change leads pipes plugs belts if u have time just replace stuff so u know the car is solid, then do some searches and see what people have dont for power and go from their
Thats why i was asking the question..
I have already done a major service.
and looking for more to do to make it more "Solid" / Reliable..
But am looking at doin things to it soon, gotta get some rimz for it, coz the standard ones just dont hold the road as well as i would like.
and then its onto things like maybe exhaust and performance...
V6 or V8 ?
oh yeah that is some important information.
its a V6...
Are better spark plugs going to do much?
No but by all means get new standard ones
Should i get extractors, before doin the cat back?
No
does a cat back exhaust give much more power etc?
A bit yes (more than extractors)
is a new computer going to cost me the earth?
No
thanks for the reply "greenfoam"
care to elaborate some plz..
Is a extracted and then standard exhaust to restricted?
cheers for the link :P
a good set of plugs would be a good idea either way....not the 20 bucks each ones though haha just new standard NGK ones would do......i used to think Bosch was good but when i changed me new bosch plugs with new NGK ones the other day (wanted to see if it mad any difference) the revs now sit at 1800 RPM at 100kph and not 2000 RPM as it did with the Bosch plugs. also have better fuel economy (note the bosch plugs were and still are brand new)
as for extractors i have herd they do do allot and some say they do stuff all
As for a cat back exhaust, i have installed one on both my VS and me old VN and it had a noticeable difference on performance and now i can hear the engin roar haha ......its worth it
get a full exhaust bellmouth out cai tune diff gears not much else u can do for a 6 thats gunna get u power unless u stroke or turbo

umm the iinet link didnt work for me dude.. navigated from the main artical to the link whcih wasnt working.![]()
oh ok, np....
so back to the origional dillemma, what to do next??
the writeup was great, but what has everyone done, and what did they find out..
oh and what not to do...
dont put a cannon on, or chev badges..
What has worked well for my VR v6 that has given noticeable performance gain is 2.5in exhaust, high-flow cat, extractors, cai (as you already have), k&n hi-flow filter and a Greenfoam tune ..... this tune will be your best bang for buck with the v6
I have removed the bellmouth .... car runs well without it at this stage .... i am concerned about possible engine damage RE the leaning out of the 2 cylinders... would you guys reccommend putting it back in if already taken out?
He does performance chips from home.
is there a link or website etc for that chip bloke?
