hey all, i have a 93 VR acclaim sedan, and the diff is startin to clunk away quite heavily. The trans is new, the motor has done bout 170,000 (the car has done 300,000) so i'm guessin its due for it to shake rattle and roll. a few times i've had it clunk, 99% of the time is when i'm slowing down, then i speed up suddenly, it actually sounded like a 'metal on metal' clunk. The oil is fine so i'm guessin its just a tired diff lol (the uni joint is also startin the 'loose rattle' on the under-body every now and then).
I do plan to keep the car for quite a while yet mainly because of the parts that have been put in (plus the exhaust has had some work done to it recently). How much would a new diff/tailshaft cost?
oh and also, when i go to put the pedal to the metal, the car takes its time to change back. Would that just be the old diff, or is that how stock standard parts for a VR operate? lol
cheers.
Unions: the people who brought you weekends
Uni joint fail = car stopped. I'd fix tht first and no kick backs until fixed - long walk home as they say

and 3 Dangerous non ABS VN's
As 88greenVN say, replace the unis first. The slow change back when pedal to the metal sounds more like a transmission problem - I'd talk to the place that reconditioned it. The diff will not cause this problem.
that sort of noises and clunks, usualy means driveline looseness, as said uni joints etc.
mostly a labour intensive job. have a chat with jackson![]()
If it turns out its the diff, Boss Racing Diffs is the place to see.
They'll probably be able to do it if its a uni, but you might be able to do that yourself.
