    Thumbs down Bearing problem

So my VS has been nice for the last 4 months, I bought it for 4000 at 136 000kms and have done 9000 since then, then the engine conked out...

So my options are: I have $1000 in warranty, and $1000 to my name atm.

Insurance fraud (read: NO WAY, haha)
Get a replacement 2nd hand motor (I am hesitant if it will likely experience the same problem).
Get the cheapest motor possible (that will last me a year)

Following is a description of the problem:

I thought it was a terrific buy, just a few minor problems like air-con not working, the uholstry was ready to come down, so i've stuck it up there with thumb tacks...

Well, to get to the point, the mechanics i've seen have told me the engine has had it. The more i rev the car, the more horrible the hollow jackhammer sound is! I've been told:
One of the berings is in horrible condition and the rod is waiting to burst out.
The cost of repairing the motor would not be worthwhile.

I was told that VS 93' engines are infamous for this.

Most wreckers will warranty a motor for 3 months especially if they install it for you - plus they are usually cheaper than mechanics as their grease monkey will do the work. Depending on where you live you might get out of it for $1000-$1200 installed. Cheaper if you do it yourself. If you decide to get one from a wrecker don't let them talk you into something you don't really want and check with a few wreckers.
    Good Luck.
