Hey guys, im just wondering if it's a straight swap with the diff centres going from standard open diff to an LSD. Is it just a matter of swapping the centres or are other parts required?
Thanks.
i gave a mate a hand and im pretty sure u need axles as well im not 100% sure but i think there are a different amount of splines for the open centre axles to the LSD double check with that anyway other then that she was sweet
hope that helps you out
yes they swap over and you don't need to change axles.... there all 28 spline
read this diff, all you need to know

Yes its a straight swap. I did this to my vs last weekend. The axles are both 28 spline as padrickz88 has said above. The only part that you should change is the crown wheel which is held on by about 8 bolts from memory and I stress that these are LEFT HAND THREAD, hence the L on top of each bolt head. When changing diff centres you should always keep the original crown wheel and pinion as a mated pair and never mix them around. So, once you remove your open centre, remove the crown wheel from it and the new lsd centre and swap the crown wheels around so that the crown wheel that has been running in your diff is now on the lsd centre. When removing your open centre also take note of which side the shims are on as they have to go back in the same place.
the above is all correct. however, take note that 2 centers won't be machined to the exact same tolerances. what this means is that even though you have put the original shims back as they were it doens't gaurantee that the backlash/wear pattern (on ther gears) is correct with the new center fitted. this is the reason shims are used in diffs. when pulling diffs apart i also mark both the crown wheel and the pinion with a paint marker so that when i re-assemble the teeth mesh in the same location

Cheers for the helpful replies. I'm just looking to acquire my own diff centre and have a shop fit it while they put new gears in. Should work out cheaper this way.
cheers for clearin that up guys
