Default VS GTS brake upgrade Qs

Hi all, i've almost completed the upgrade from standard VS brakes to the GTS setup.

    i have a few Q's

the original bolts that supply/flow fluid to the caliper, the hole was about 3mm and the holes in the bolts on the GTS calipers were 1mm.. now i used the ones that come with the big brakes. my theory, they came with the calipers, smaller hole, more pressure.. but the flip side also bigger hole, more fluid.. which bolt should have i used?

how long is the brake hose on the front calipers? i think mine are a lil short.. can anyone either post up a pic from the back of the calipers or measure up the hose?

    Cheers

ide use the bolts that came with the kit, what u said makes sense about more pressure in the lines.
r the callipers on the correct side? i know it sounds obviouse and your probably laughing but its happend.lol

Well the upgrade is complete and she works awesome!

i did end up using the bolts that came with the brakes, i figure, if they end up too spongey i'll change em n use the bigger hole ones. so far sooo good!!

POVRTY: i did have the calipers the right way, they had markings on them, L & R opposite end of the bleeder, and the hose was ok, not stretched as was told.

Took it to get bleed by a pro, coz we couldnt get the brakes hard, they said the they're upsidedown. i told em that they have markings on them and they are correct, but they told me they must be wrong becoz the bleeder is on the bottom and you'll never get the air out of them. Taking this on board, i unwillingly swapped them over so the bleeder is up the top. had to get longer hoses becoz the hose was now down the bottom. bled the brakes and all good.

i dont know if anyone that has a GTS can check this but check where the bleeder valve is (top or bottom) and check the other end to see if you have the markings on it, just out of interests sakes.

NOTE TO ALL: if replacing brakes or touching the hoses connectd to the calipers, rememver to get new copper washers so they seal and not leak!

If its the bleeder in the caliper your refering too, then yes it will have to go to the top, you will never get the air out while ever your just dumping the fluid out the bottom of the caliper.

yea which is why i swapped them round.

so my question is, are the markings wrong on the calipers? OR are they marked for when you looking from the front of the car, making the drivers side left and passenger side right. confusing i must say!! but at the time, i didnt even click about the bleeders being below the hose height!

Yeah, i wish they would mark things DS and ODS, marking things L and R is stupid, its a matter of perspective as to which way you look at the car. I would say the markings are fine, as said its just a matter of which way you look at the car

Thats what i believed as well, and that was the way i first installed them, but the bleeder was down below the hose, which wont bleed the air out. so swapped them round and shes all bled n working perfectly.

Mack: where bouts is your bleeder valve?

Anyone out there own a GTS that can check this?

in theory, every brake caliper has a bleeder valve at the top of the caliper.

Those brakes could be off a C4 Corvette which are mounted differently, hence the L&R. The bleeder is supposed to be on the top to let all the air out. I have a similar set up on my car. Mine needed longer front brake hoses and I'd recommend spending the extra and getting braided ones made - you get a much better pedal feel from them.

Also as Reaper said with them maybe being off a car thats not a Holden, if the calipers were at the back of the disc on the original car then the L&R would be correct.

They could possibly be use on a few different models, which the mounts could be use on the back of the rotor. But they are from a VS GTS.

i did get the hoses made up and are a few cms longer, but i could of gotten them a few more cms longer. I probably should have got braided, but for the time being theres no problems with fading or spongey pedal. It'll get a decent workout over the holidays, so i'll see how it goes.

Thanks guys, im feeling a better about flipping them around!

They may have been from a VS GTS (new) but the production run would have been extremely low and in many cases HSV just pick a braking system off the shelf from the mother ship and make a few minor mods to fit their application. Glad you got it all sorted anyway.
