ok. a few friends and i made my statesman a manual a few weeks ago. but it still doesnt go1. clutch isint doing anything(brand new) 2. no speedo and 3. it now has the engine light on and is running like crap. so does anyone seem to know where i can get a manual vs speed sensor from( the box is a early vr tho but i think it will fit) and woudl the engine light be on because the loom isint conected because the conversion didtn come with one.
You need some hardware trickery to make the speed pulse compatable with the auto ecu if you haven't got a manual loom in it. Ask Morton about the clutch he buggered his install up the same way![]()
i would be getting a vs gearbox not vr
If Barbie's so popular, why do you have to buy all her friends?
the vr box works fine, i would however look into a harness and speed sensor, as for the clutch not doing anything im unsure it could be a million things
You've likely set the wrong throwout on the pivot stud in the bellhousing. How does the clutch pedal feel? Limp? Hard?
Is the pressure plate doing nothing because:
1) it's always engaged (contacting) and you can't select gears
or 2) it's never engaged (pulled back) and you can't get power down

hey morton what box you use on your conversion???
If the clutch is limp. then theres either and issue with the adjustment(too loose), cable not connected to pedal, or you need to look closer at the folk and see why its not pushing on the thrust bearing and putting pressure on the pressure plate fingers(maybe wrong clutch too). Being a cable clutch theres no real rocket science to it, the problem should be fairly apparent when you see it.
If you pm Dr Bob here or even greenfoam^^^(but he can be a little hard to get hold of in a hurry), they can do modded chips to suit the auto vs computer to make it work as a manual, and i think you can mod the auto loom to make it work. Have a look in the modding auto loom bit in this thread The complete Vn-Vr Manual Conversion Guide. it may not be your excact wiring, but it will give you an idea of what needs to be done.

thanks..i wiill sus it out tomorrow. the gearbox is pretty much out again so i will know wat the go is soon, i was thinking of compairing both new and old presure plates and seeing if i can notice any real difference but hopefully it wont be to bad.
The best thing you can do now that the box is out, is do dummy fits with the bellhousing alone, and the clutch fork + throwout bearing inside it. Use this to gauge how far out the throwout bearing sits from the pressure plate diaphragm when the clutch fork is resting on the pivot stud, and fully withdrawn. If there's any gap, screw out the pivot stud and dummy fit again, and continue doing this 'till you have the throwout bearing resting gently against the face of the pressure plate diaphragm at full retraction.
Then set it all together in the gearbox, fit it up, and have a last double-check to ensure the throwout bearing is sitting right on the diaphragm, but without putting pressure on it.
Then all you have to do is adjust the clutch cable, so there's a tiny dead zone, and you're set
Michael W: I used a VN Borg Warner T5 5spd box in mine, with cable driven clutch fork, and an RPM Heavy Duty clutch and pressure plate.
