Hi all, i have a problem i am hoping i can get answers for...
My VS Stato (factory supercharged) has an intermittent rattle which sounds like it is coming from the front of the engine. I did some reading and decided that it was the super charger coupler... I got a new green rubber one from zzp in the states and fitted it in... Didn't fix the problem.. The rattle is more like a chatter which only occurs when backing off the throttle and when the revs reach 1000 rpm. Sometimes you can also hear it a little at idle which is i guess about 700 rmp, but at the 1000 mark it is quite noticeable...
So the coupler didn't fix it??? it does not sound like bearing noise, push rods being bent or anything like that...
The car has the following mods, 12psi boost, 1.98:1 roller rockers by MACE, bored throttle body, chip, K&N filter and thats basically it really.... Could this problem be the timing chain, does the l67 have problems with timing chains....
If this may be the problem i will need to replace the chain, i don't want anything that messes with the timing, i want a performance replacement that will fit in and have the same advance... can someone suggest a replacement chain for me (does not need to be double row)... Ans can someone perhaps suggest that i may or may not be on track thinking it is actually the chain to begin with...
Regards all
Brett
the plot thickens...
took of the supercharger belt, still got the rettle... so with the supercharger not spinning we can now say the rattle has nothing to do with the charger...
i am now leaning towards the timing chain and tensioner... however someone made the suggestion that these engines have lots of problems with the cam bearings...
i took it to a machine shop, they had a lsiten and said F@#k knows :-)
any suggestions, cam or timing chain...
Brett
come on guys... someone must have some smarts on this subject??
checked the belt tensioner pulley?
I had the same problem and it got very bad very quickly and it turned out to be a bearing and since then found lots of supercharged 6's with the number 6 bearing stuffed
