Ok issue's with my cooling
symptoms:
Temp gauge will reach half way sometimes even higher after about 5 mins of driving on a cold day...
What i have done is: replaced hoses, thermostat, coolant... I have even added some radiator stop leak just incase there's a small leak somewhere....
So anyways after replacing the thermostat several times it still seems to climb really quickly...
the fan works fine, as when it has become really hot the fan spins faster and tries to cool it, then after a few mins of being really hot it'll suddenly fall again to normal, but weird thing is it only does this when it's cold...
I have a feeling that maybe the stop leak stuff maybe blocking some of the reservoir pipes in the radiator, or possibly become big "globs" floating in and around the water channels in the engine... but with out giving it a high pressure flush i'm lost for ideas?
So any help with this would be appreciated...
again i have gone through all the minor issues that would cause this, my guess would be a farked sensor, but where and how would one replace this?
cheers
If the air coming from the radiator when the fans kick in is very hot then its probable that the radiator is OK and not blocked - this air should be 'really' hot.
I've seen thermostats installed the wrong way around which results in quick overheat but not as quick as yours.
Did you bleed the air from the coolant via bleeder on top of thermostat housing?
Haven't connected the hoses to heater tap wrong?
What thermostat did you use? Don't use the 81 deg one. It sounds like you have an air lock, bleed the system via the bleeder as hako said, then top it up only using the reservoir, not the radiator cap.
Failing that, take actual temperature readings. If ok then replace your temp sender
As stated fan works fine, is blowing hot air back into the engine bay, hoses are new, thermostat is new, and installed correctly, as there is only one way to install them!,
Bled the system of air and fill only with res, i figure it's probably a sender issue, or sensor issue, but i need to know if i need to take this into consideration i need to what and where these sensors, or senders are located to be replaced...
as the typical manual states nothing... btw using 91 degs thermostat...
but thanks for replies...
It is possible to install the thermostat back to front - that's why they have 'radiator' stamped on the side that goes to the radiator.
yeah thermostat aint backwards that's for sure, i have installed to many of them to get it wrong!, either way it's really starting to bug me now, i mean driving around for several hours in the city etc the car will remain to be of a decent temp, and obviously out on the highway it'll sit just below the 2nd notch on the tacho...
But when driving to work cold after about 10mins of driving, (As i classify still being somewhat cold, especially on very cold morning) it'll get to the 4th notch on the tacho for no reason!!!
But then once running around for a while it'll sit perfectly cool, unless sitting at lights for ages of in heaps of traffic!
I figure it could be a pressue thing? a blockage of some sort? or a sensor issue, but at risk of wasting money at a Rad specialist i'd better off trying to work this out before resorting to that!
Coolant and water temp sensors are cheapreplace them first?

so where could one pick up some of those? and how would one go about fitting these? I mean i am handy with fixing sh*t like this, so all i need to know is the basics, maybe a picture and i'm good![]()
They're both behind the alternator, and they can both be bought cheaply from Repco, Bursons, and probably Supercheap.
They're both removable with a spanner or shifter, and will leak coolant quite slowly.

sounds like the thermostat isnt opening properly or at the right time
cheers morton!
i'll check that out later over the chrissy break!!!
