Hey guys i'm pretty new to this site i've recently bought a ecotech vs and it had some over heating problems so i replaced the water pump the themostat coolant temp sensor timing belt and radiator cap. Now theres no overheating but engine light keeps coming on and engaging the thermo fan its totally got me stumped any suggestions?
check the error codes. see the how to section for how to check them. did you bleed air from system when you did it ?
yeah bled the system dont you need a special cable to do that?
k....done a system diagnostic check and came up error codes 15 and 16 any ideas?....
15 = coolant temp sensor (voltage high)
16 = coolant temp sensor (voltage unstable)
Not sure exactly whether this means the sensor is buggered, or the wiring in faulty or the ECU is causing the problem. I'd check the wiring and then replace the sensor with a genuine one and see what happens.
Its possible the engine light and fan are coming on as the ECU is getting a dodgy message from the coolant temp sensor and is warning you (the driver) that there is a problem and running the fan to cool. Smart eh! Good Luck.

would reseting the ecu fix the prob?cos i replaced the after market with genuine and still the same deal!
yes, try resetting ECU to clear the code. after you think you have reset ecu check codes again before starting engine. should only get code 12. then start engine and see if your errors come back. There only 1 skinny wire on that sensor so the wire could be damaged or loose and not connecting properly. EDIT : which sensor did u change ? the one near the thermostat with 1 wire on it or the other 1 ( not sure where that is )

Are you still losing coolant?
I think the manifold gaskets may be shot.
Coolant temp sensor (the one that tells the fan to come on) has two wires - not one. The sensor with the single wire is the one that drives the temp gauge.
