Ok , first off I wish to thank all you lot that post on here heaps , as I,ve had a lot of niggling probs with my VR and scrolling through the forums have found possible solutions etc and 9 times out of 10 they have been on the money . Then I read the mods that some do to upgrade from the basic beast to add some creature comforts , lot cheaper than forking out for for a newer car I must say , with the same stuff , and then theres ebay for the backyard mechanic like me .
Anyway , you lot convinced me to break away from the basic look of the exec and over the last few months have body kitted , lowered , thrown in calais seats and door cards , finished fitting power windows the other week and now embarked on the Level 3 dash mod .
Here comes my problem , bought the cluster , trip comp and instead of the L3 added loom I got a complete dash with a berlina loom . Took my dash out and fitted the bought one , hooked it all up and all seemed fine .
Then it got dark and I turned the headlights on , grrr , off went the lcd display and no cluster lights yet all other lights and parkers etc were working fine .
Checked fuses and no drama there so my question is , do I have to add any wires somewhere or disconnect wires somewhere before I go any further ? Security swith replaced AC switch on dash but didnt hook that up as was going to fit the AC switch into that spot under the headlight switch at a later date and wire it .
Any advice would be appreciated , thx.
sounds like the calais wiring has a diffrent pin position on the plug under the dash.
all i did with mine was use my old exsting wiring and add the 10 extra wires for the trip computer etc and i have no problems (except no lights on the mode switch thing)
Yeah , been checking the wires on old dash and the new one and they have some different , will have some time over chrissy to go right through it and might throw the old one back in and add the wires and plugs etc into it , thx
1 thing you can do first is look over the PCB's on the 2 clusters. It has the pin outs for tthe 4 plugs.
Write down each plug items side by side and find the one or 2 that dont match. They are the ones you will need to change. Some times it just move a wire in the back of the connector over 1 slot and alls good.
All is good , yeah some wires were different so ripped the new dash out , stripped the loom , attached it to my old dash and fitted it all up . For the life of me I couldn't find YB 62 connector , so ventured direct to the PCM and found 2 wires yellow/black . The plain one didnt work but the one with a brown band around it every 2 inches was a winner , changed globe to a led in trip unit and it got it working .
Thx all and one consolation is I can rip a dash out complete in under 15 minutes now.
