ive been an owner of a vr v6 for a while now, and have done it up to a point where im happy with it (performance wise) and now im looking to fix a few of the little things that screw up in a commodore and would appreciate any info people can provide.
basically, i have a standard exec commodore which has been beefed up engine-wise (stage 4 cam, custom chip, dbl row timing chains, reprogrammed ecu, new lifters etc etc), exhaust wise (2.5" cat back, on pacemaker racing extrators backed up with a twin cat setup), auto (stage 2 shiftkit, carbon bands - the WORX) + diff wise (new 4.11 lsd).
(im rebuilding the engine to suit a high end s/charger in 09)
at present my main things to fix are interiour / cooling related problems.
problem 1: the sagging roof lining (i want to replace, not fix/diy) .
i did see a guy on ebay named demo_steve*(not correct name) who was selling them, and someone in my family wiped my watch list so i lost his info.
holden apparently 'dont stock this item' but can get them for like $1k.
this leaves me curious as to wheter if anyone knows this seller/brought off him (and still has his details - he sells the hsv flamed + lion head vr-rs roof linings) or know of elsewhere i might get a new roof lining at a reasonable price.
problem 2: my A/C has been blowing air hotter than outside (even when set to full cool) for the last year...
and im wondering, would this be a simple case of re-gassing, or do i spend the cash to have my local mechanic (who is great btw) to traul through it and fix whatevers wrong.
Also, when i throw my car full sideways around corners on the track (back end nearly overtaking the front) and try to hold the accelerator 'flat knacker' sometimes if i dont use the gears in my auto [and even sometimes when i do] the engine seems to back off...
does anyone know if this would be due to the stock ecu (which has been re-programmed) but not to suit all my upgrades, or possibly a lack in pressure from the fuel pump, which is still a stocky ?

Any quality car interior trimmer will be able to do a new roof lining and install it properly.
As for your cooling problems, check that your heater tap is working properly, ie not stuck open. If your air con is out of gas then it will need regassing, but you will need to find out why it needs gassing, which will generally mean a leak somewhere, one of the most common problems in the commodore is for the gas to leak out of the condensor, which is behind the dash. It's a dash out job for repair, and costs about $1000 to get done due to all the labour involved. If that is indeed the problem in your case, I'd recommend replacing the heater core at the same time, saves spending another $1000 getting it done later, when the whole dash has to come out again. Both very common problems on the commodore.
hey harv,
thanks for the quick reply. ill start giving the trimmers around my area a call during the new year.
as for the a/c stuff, my local mechanic isnt usually too bad so i might just chuck it into him to fix.
i would still appreciate if anyone has any details on the ebay seller 'demolition_steve/demo_steve/demolition steve' from kilsyth vic (mainly so i can buy one of his roof linings)
Also, again i might ask about the backing off, of the engine while sideways... one of my mates said its possibly the diff (although i doubt it... but i have to throw it out there)... can anyone comment.
adept..., where you at? If you around sydney way, check out supreme air care in hoxton park. Just got mine done for same prob. Cost me 110 but runnin sweet now...
for all those that troll across this thread, i have re-located and had a roof lining fitted by the ebay sell i mentioned earlier. His service was top notch and prices were alot better than some of the trimmers that wont even guarentee their work.
see: eBay My World - demosteve2005
mods : i am aware on the ban on posting services or parts availible through sponsors of this site, however i couldnt find a sponsors roof re-liner, so im posting this in the hope that its within rules and helps others on here.

Good on ya for updating your thread, i usually try to update my old threads to give them some closure but alot of people dont. Needs to be more of it.
i got my roof lining in my VR commodore replaced for somewhere around 250-280 i cant really remember
i took my roof lighning out my self and had it covered at the trimmers for $100 it takes them stuff all.
I went to the wreckers and found a near newly retrimmed one in a car (plenty to choose from)for 50 bux and did all the r and r stuff myself.
This is my vr that I rebuilt ....CLICK HERE to see my vr on Cardomain
......if you want to check it out......Anyway make sure you rubbish a ford daily ....I am a 4DH8RZ Club lifetime member .................new members joining everyday
250 will get you a new roof lining fitted
as for when u throw your car sideways it looses power.. its because all the fuel has moved to the side of the tank and away from the fuel pump so u dont get any fuel and the car drops power..
remedy for that is a surge tank fitted
my gfs vr is bad for it damn stalled on me the other day from doing some tight corners lol
