i have a vs series 2 manual and for example i'm going 80 come to an incline drop back into forth and when going up the hill the revs build up then drop right back down then build back up and it just keeps happening until i reach the top then its fine and its fine when im accelerating fast and stuff like that any help is appreciated thanks
sounds like the clutch is slipping.
and what would be the best way to fix that without having to buy a new clutch? thanks
not much you can do, just wait it out un till it becomes worse or give the clutch system a blead and hope for the best
In addition to what moff man says, the problem with leaving it till it fails completely is that you will probably stuff up your flywheel which is very expensive (dual mass). If you catch it early enough you may just need to replace the driven disc. Every time it slips it generates heat....and the heat burns the flywheel face which distorts. Bad time of the year for it to start slipping.
yer tell me bout it christmas and a crappy ass warranty which only covers it up to 250 bucks which is better than nothin i spose bus also how much would a new clutch and flywheel be worth do ya recon genuine and after market? thanks oh and on top of that installation
A ballpark figure at a rough guess would be $1250 to $1600 unfortunately. However re-reading your post doesn't really "only" indicate a slipping clutch .....the revs should rise and not drop/rise as the clutch shouldn't slip/grab/slip/grab.
The best test for a slipping clutch is to have engine idling, put clutch in and select 4th gear (not 5th), and release clutch till engine stalls. (foot off acellerator) If it doesn't stall the clutch is really slipping bad.
So....maybe a better desription of the symptoms is needed...like what are the revs doing when it rises/dies etc.
and a smell, if you can smell a burniung smell simillar to brakes than that also would be a good indication
I had an issue like this while back. The front seal on the gear box went and oil was just pouring out onto the clutch causing it to slip.
Is the car accellerating with the revs or is it just staying the same speed and the revs go up and down. If the car is movin with the revs then i would say its a blocked fuel filter.
But if its the clutch be prepared to get a shock, the series 2 vs's are so much more expensive then the series 1.
well thanks but theres no smell or anything like that and it does stall when i put it in fourth and release well when im going up the hill the revs rise without the car gaining speed the just go up then as the revs drop the car gains more momentem and then the revs build back up and go back down in the same fashion but theres no other problems with the car i changed the fuel filter a while back when it started to do it and that fixed the problem for a week or so then put injector cleaner in with the fuel and that didnt do to much lol
and me being a first yr apprentice, with cars i ussualy only work on the locking/unlocking side of them im a locksmith but i still get the **** apprentice wage and if it is my clutch if it is my clucth its gonna have to hold out for a couple of months till i get my wage top up lol
