    Default What're these mystery cables

    Hey all,

Pulled the wifes centre console out today to fit a new hand brake boot and with the fascia removed noticed two factory looking cables, just trying to sus out what they are (her car's a series two executive from SSV). My series one doesn't have them.

I get the feeling maybe climate, but if so why god why does it have the non climate controls?

You will have spare plugs all through your car. The wiring looms are mostly all the same at the factory and they simply plug in whatever options were put on your car. The excetions would be the calais and statsmans ect..

I think it's a bonus though, if going to upgrade a magnificent bonus, makes it a lot easier just want to find out what they're for. The best unconnected loom to find would be for level 3 cluster but haven't checked, not very likely but how awesome would that be

Those two plugs are for power windows (just installed them in my car). It will be pretty hard to track these wires as they will go up under the dash but they will lead to various earth points, one to fuse 5, one to fuse 11, and the rest will go to the bcm. Quite strange to find this fitted in an exec as it was always an extra and rarely done and for an exec and it was only ever front power windows. Only the higher models were optioned with front and rear. Would be interesting to know if it has the loom in the doors for the power window regs. If so all you probably need is the switches and the short loom that connects them to the two plugs in your first picture.

cander you're not wrong, this car has us baffled as to why it's a well optioned exec when it could have been cheaper just to buy a higher model. It's got ABS/IRS (no decal on B pillar), driver/passenger SRS airbags, cruise control... actually that's all I can think of at the moment, doesn't seem too well optioned then :/

So they're electric window wirings... definitely interesting (but no where near enough money to utilize this).

    Thanks

SSV are just a dealer aren't they? Nothing like HSV or SSV that get the body shells and build their own cars... 'cause this car came from SSV

VS's with ABS and airbags normally have the power window wiring in them, as the Acclaim and various packs (Equipe, Esteem, Vacationer) are based off the Exec. What I've found is if the car doesn't have ABS or cruise, it most likely won't have the extra wiring for the windows

isn't SSV Sydney Special Vehicles ? maybe they optioned the base model like HSV do I'm not sure how that operates, but as mentioned they are definately from the power windows, maybe they used a standardised wiring kit on all models if the cables go through into your doors then upgrading to power windows from a few wrecked VR's wouldn't be all that difficult just need the regs and switches and away you go
