The VS is slightly dearer because of the way the cat is and the brackets on the front muffler. You would be hard pressed to find a VS live axle 2 1/2" cat back under $250. The IRS ones are cheaper for some reason.

IRS is a hell of a lot easier to install and make

mate you shudnt be charged $100 for a decent tip, most tips cost $30 and require 2 tack welds on the end of the exhaust, the weld shudnt cost more than $20. You got pretty hard done by.

Yeah i realise i proberly got a bit ripped off as i have seen the same tip that i got in super cheap auto and other stores for about $40-50 but i dont mind, i am quite happy with the system i got, the guys that did it did a great job and i got exactly what i was after.

I know that but they aren't as common so usually they are dearer.

    And Zuicider...no it won't.

    .
That shouldnt matter if the exhaust shop is custom making them I.E. bending pipe up and assembling it with mufflers and resinators in it. Rarity of the car doesnt matter, its the sum total of materials and labour that defines price.

couldnt have put that part any better

So basically guys, if your after a common 2.5" catback exhaust you shudnt be paying over $300 for it. probably $280 max. As for the tip, they shouldnt cost more than $40 (for a really good one) and any more than $20 to tack weld on.

It is cheaper to buy an off the shelf system these days though as they are jigged up and mass produced. When you say "custom" what you really should say is "fabricated". Custom generally means a one off and there is nothing special about a Commodore that needs a "custom" system.

Fabricated systems in terms of individual components plus labour work out more expensive.

    Estimates:
    3m of pipe at $40pm, $120.
    Front muffler $120.
    Hangers and clamps $30.
    Labour 1-2 hours max $70-$140.

even at 1 hour you are still looking at $340, supply and fit an off the shelf system, $280-$320. And it's mandrel bent.

To fit an off the shelf item takes around 20 minutes, unless you are really quiet it isn't cost effective to fabricate a system for such a common car.
