Hey - First post here but here it goes!
Anyways, I'm currently driving a 1995 VR Commodore Acclaim with 85,000km on the clock. I've been driving it for a week so far and it really hasn't been driven much in the past few years - most of the kays were stacked on in the first few years of owning the car, it's in pretty good shape!
But...First question:
My cruise control doesn't work...I press the stalk and nothing lights up on the dash? Play with the switches and still nothing happens - am I doing something wrong here or is there just a common fault with these cars?
Second question:
What kind of fuel economy should I be getting out of the 3.8 Auto? I reckon out of this tank 350km seems like close to the mark but for me coming from my Peugeot (which is getting fixed) - It's pretty steep? This is mixed freeway/inner city driving! How big is the tank so I can work out economy figures?
Anyways - thanks! Looks like a good forum - Lots of information, Just a bit of a n00b when it comes to Commodores!
Cheers,
Stalled.

Hi STALLED,
Welcome to the site. Cruise control. First, you must be above about 50km/hr I think for it to work. You first press the bottom button to turn it on, little green light should come on, then the top button to start it at the speed you are travelling at. Couple of things to check.
1) When you first go to start the car all of the lights come on. Check that the Green and yellow cruise lights, right next to each other on the instrument cluster are actually working. Check the fuse next (check all fuses if you have time). If the instrument cluster is not sitting properly it may not work, so just push the instrument cluster in or give a hard tap on the top of the dash and see if that fixes it. There is a 5V regulator in the instrument cluster, if that went or a track on the instrument cluster went, the cruise would stop working. The switch itself might not be working. Have a search around the site for other peoples problems and how they fixed it, its not common for these to fail though.
Fuel economy. Have a search around as we have a few threads where heaps of guys have compared their results. I can easily pull 500km out of a tank, usually 550km - not highway but I dont do much traffic. The fuel tank in the VR is 63L.
Thanks for the reply! Much appreciated!
I'll give those things a shot and see what the go is from there. It's not vital that it works, but it would just be nice to have (and considering it's double demerits this weekend) might provide to be a nice license saver!
I'll check the lights and then the fuses - Let ya know how it goes!

Ok...
None of the cruise control lights are coming up on the dash when I turn the key to ACC - What does this generally mean?
Haven't had time to check the fuses but I'll do it after work tomorrow night!

the globes are probly blown in the cluster, not a big problem and wont stop the cruise from working. all you need to do is get up to desired speed and press the set button, if the revs fall its not set, than press the on/off button once (biger button on the bottom) and press set again hopefully it works and all you need is a couple of globes
falling all this check for brake lights even one out could cause cruise to stop (dont ask why it will give you a headach) and also the 2 brake switches on the pedel they might be out of adjustment.
falling all this there might be broken wires in the car depending where it was parked for so manny years mice might of gottin in and chewed through some wiring........hope not...
Hi there,
You have to turn the key one more notch just before you start the car.
There will be more lights on the right hand side than the pic I took they don`t stay on long.
It will be a green light with CRS.
Read what kopper69 has written again in his reply he is spot on.

You learn something everyday.
You have to have the CAS button on for it to light up on the dash when you turn the key to check the bulbs are working and the ON light beside it doesn`t light up.
So I would say you have to be driving in cruise control to see the ON light (both lights on together).
And test as moff_man has said.
Hope that helps.
