i found out my t5 for my stato was leaking so i decided to remove the inspection plate so i could seal it up again but now i cant get it off or on!and also the input shaft spins freely now. and ideas?
its the plate that is over the top of the gear box...not the one that covers the flywheel etc
try rotating the output spline slightly
im not admiring your car im looking in disgust
tried it lol...im probli just gonna get a gear box shop to pull it apart and seal it all up so there wont be any drama later on. hopefully they wont slug me to much
To get the inspection plate back on, you have to disassemble the gearbox.
1) You have to remove the selector housing (four bolts)
2) knock out the slide pin for the shifter socket thing, and remove that with the ball bearing
3) unbolt the extension housing from the gearbox body, and remove that
Then once it's all apart, clean up all the sealing surfaces properly, and shove it back together carefully.
Getting the selector forks to line up properly on the gears is an absolute kick in the backside. I never want to do that again

aww i dont think many joints are open over the new years break..so ill have to do it myself. so when you say selector fork morton..what part is that?
In that first picture, it's the THIRD part from the left, the one upside down with the two semi-circular parts and the long thin bit. Those two forks have to line up with the synchros on the layshaft in the gearbox.

hmm where abouts is the ball bearing...and i do i have to remove the spilt pin thing under the shifter plate thign?
The ball bearing is underneath the shifter block, the bit that goes left-right-back-forth. And you have to knock out the slide pin which holds that part in place.
Don't worry too much about the ball bearing, it's hard to lose. What's really hard, is getting it back inAnd the slide pin can just be knocked down. You'll find it later. Once again, getting it back in is the harder part - but not too hard.

hope these help a little...but those where those arrows are...is that where i line the forks up with and as u can see where that pin went in (under the shift) thats as vertical as i can get it...i also got a pic of under the case...does it look right? lol
Looks like it's stuck accross in the 1-2 shift position. It's hard to get the forks quite right.
Those two smooth areas are the correct spot for the forks though![]()
