Today i changed the rocker cover gaskets.Cause of leaks. When i went to tighten up the right one,the top 2 bolts and the bolt nearest to the alternator wouldnt tighten the cover down.Nothing blocking the bolts in the holes.Probably about a 5mm movement up and down when the other bolts were firmly tightened. The left one went on no problem. All bolts tightened down as normal.Doesnt look good.Gonna put some washers on the 3 bolts to take up the slack,to keep the cover tightened down as it should be.Until i get it sorted out.All bolts on both side are the same length.Could it be that some work done by a previous owner(ive had the VS for 7 years) could have put slightly longer bolts in? Is that possible ya reckon? When i took off the old gaskets, the one on the right side had a thicker one compared to the left side.I thought that was real strange. The ones i got from the Holden dealer were the same as the one on the left side i took off.Fair dinkum. What next? Any ideas?

Rocker cover bolts... V6, right? They are meant to have rubber washers on them. Big chunky things. They all there? Line up all the bolts and take a picture, I couldn't really understand what you were getting at in your post![]()

Gday matey. Why didnt i bloody think about that, lol. The bloody rubbers on the bolts on the loose right side were totally rooted compared to the good rubbers on the left side.I was gonna buy some new ones for the stuffed side. That would definatley take up the slack.Youre a Champion Morton. The bloody most simple thing.Ill get some new ones from Holden.Im still stuck in the 70s mate. With cork gaskets and normal bolts, lol. Thanks matey.
its possible that there are small amounts of **** in the sockets, give em a good blow with the air gun, then hit them with wd40. See if that makes a difference
EDIT: Morton wins

Gday matey. No worries.Ive got it sorted out.The rubbers were totally stuffed on the bolts.Leaving too much slack.Ill just give meself an upper cut. Thanks matey.I checked the holes thinking there might be crap in them, but they were all clear.
Guess what fellas.New rocker cover bolt rubber washers and guess what? No more slack.Great stuff. Thanks again. DOUBLE UPPERCUT.Lol.
