hey,
just put my sub in today and it cranks and sounds awsome inside the car. but outside the car the boot buzzes and is anoying coz u cant show off the bass lol
the main problem is the boot skin vibrating against the bracing stuff underneith. so my question is should i just pump it full of expanding foam or silicone or something?
any input would be appreciated
cheers, andrew
I thought having a vibrating boot was fulli sik!
just get some dynamat or somthin similar that should fix it
ok, what is dynamat? lol
I have never had the problem, but a friend of mine a couple years ago filled his with expanda-foam and that seemed to do the trick. Not sure how well it held up over time though

ok sweet, ill try it and see what happens
or find out what this dynamat stuff is
its some sort of rubber cr4p that blocks the spaces and gaps of your boot which stops it from rattling ur garnish etc...![]()
DYNAMAT FTW not only does it stop virbrations it help's reflect bass, making it louder![]()
If Barbie's so popular, why do you have to buy all her friends?
how much is the dynamat thing and the flexable foam thing??
thats true rabbit then the interior would start vibrating![]()
ok sounds good, can i get it from autobarn or somewhere like that? and how expencive are we talking? i think expanding foam is like $10-$15 for a can
I haven't looked for a while but I think dynamat is around $200 for a 2-door kit, so probably about the same or a little more for the boot-lit

oh wow, didnt think you ment that expencive lol owel, might try the foam before that
cheers guys!
Expanding foam *might* stop the rattles, but dynamat gives a massive increase in sound quality, as well as getting rid of most of the rattles. If you have the money then dynamat is definately worth it.
Also, I would take Rabbits word for it, he has used so much in his car he could have sex with his bosses missus in it while his boss is in the next car, and he would never hear her scream

You could just weld the frame back on to the skin. Ive noticed it is the spots where the frame has been tacked on which has failed which causes the boot to "buzz." So i say just try tacking it back on, at least it will last.
Ah yeah, I had duel subs in my old car and it rattled like hell! Sounded sweet on the inside though but when it got really bouncy you could hear it on the inside lol.
I don't like the sound of this foam stuff, sounds like it would do more damage than good... I'll have a look at the mat.
so, i sussed out the dynamat and it was going to cost $219 to do my boot lid! i cant really justify spending that much just to get rid of a little buzz, so im going with the foam and putting sellys no more gaps around the joins. ill let you all know how it works out
the foam worked fairly well, the buzing isnt completely gone but it is reduced majorly now
Can you take some pics of where the foam went? Did you do the sellys stuff as well?
i had a mate who used this expanding foam stuff and it buckled his boot...
depending on the colour car i have used sikaflex and just filled in the braces to do it on the cheap and has worked well...
tip for number plates buzzing put double sided tape top and bottem dont need to peel both sides off just the one that sticks to the plate and use 4 screws two top and two bottem.......
i put no more gaps around the joins and then pumped all the hollow spaces with expanding foam
autex ay? yeah i was thinking about carpeting it to tidy it up a bit. where can i get it and how much?
cheers, Andrew
or go into bunnings and buy a roll of flashtac pretty much the same as dynamat just comes on a roll and alot cheaper its basically just tar with a foil layer i did the boot on my vs and stopped all the rattles outside they car![]()
when i got my vr i found the boot lid plugged with about 5kg of silicone rubber so i guess it's there for anti-rattle properties... boot doesn't rattle nearly as much as the drivers door so i guess it's working!
