I did a tranny service yesterday, and after i put the new filter in, and put the sump back on, i filled it with 3 litres of DEXIII.
Did the useual P,R,N,D,3,2,1, took it for a little drive, came back to check the oil and it didn't read anything. so i put a little more in and repeted the steps above multiple times until i had used the whole 4 litres and it still does not show anything on the dippy.
And yes i was checking when the tranny was hot and in park with the engine idleing.
And no, it's not leaking any oil
Any ideas?
Cheers, Matt.
The all new TATA Nano, India's $3000 low cost car, Runs on Chicken Vindaloo!
the VS sump as a 4.5ltr capacity..
the auto including torque converter it holds 7.9ltrs
if its only a fluid and filter change it should take 4.8ltrs
add 1ltr bottles and wait a minute or 2 inbetween check and add as required..
i wouldnt be driving it anywhere without the correct amount of fluid in it
sounds like your convertor was a bit empty , and if you have a trans cooler could explain why its a bit thirsty ,says in my vt mannual a
v6 4l60 holds refill 4.8 but the total capicity is 7.9liters and the
v8 refill 5 liters and total capicity is 10.6 liters
so keep filling you have got a little to go yet
i just had the exact problem and ended up putting just under 6 litres in, does the trans slip a little ? low oil pressure will cause that. also the hot clean oil goes almost clear and its so hard to see lol. best way to know what you've dropped is to catch it all in a bucket and measure it out. works for me I've got a oil tray with measurements up the side so i know exactly how much i've dropped
