I used to have a VN about 7 years ago and I bought some new injectors for it (Bosch 0 280 150 960) for just over $80 each. However, before I put them in a friend was driving the car and cooked the engine :-(. Wasn't really his fault though.
I have had a VS now and I had the injectors (Bosch 0 280 150 973) serviced. While the car was out of action I put the VN injectors in it (which from the specs flow a little less, but are otherwise similar), so that I could drive it. The car drives fine, but I have read that the pintle design on the 973's is more robust.
What would you guy's do?
I can leave the VN injectors in it and keep the 973's for spares.
I can put the 973's back in and try and sell the 960's (they have only done just over 500 km), and I put a new fuel filter in before installing them. If you think this is the best option, how much would be a reasonable price? Would I get $40 each for them, or much less?
the older VN injectors have a less efficient spray pattern so don't attomise the fuel as well. the ecu will adjust for the slight difference in injector flow. have you lost any fuel economy? personally i'd just leave it as is if it's running fine and keep the other injectors for a rainy day

I only kept the VN injectors because I thought they were the same as the VS ones, and always intended to swap the new injectors in around 160000 km. It was only when I pulled the old ones out when I found they were different.
I think the fuel consumption is similar to the old injectors. However, when I got the old injectors back it turned out they were ok in general, but one had a bad spray pattern, so I thought fuel consumption should be a little better with the new injectors.
Anyway I think I will take your advice and just leave them in - thanks for the input
Well I could not resist pulling the VN injectors out and seeing what difference the service made to my old VS injectors, and I am glad I did.
The VS injectors give much better power and fuel economy after servicing and are also better than the VN injectors - the car has never run as well.
I certainly suggest that you should not use VN injectors in a VS. I will keep the VN ones in case I ever need to send my VS ones away for servicing and need to use the car in the meantime.
thats good news, i've still got some re-co VS injectors to go in the missus car. injectors do seem to loose some efficiency over time i guess people just don't notice it over a long peroid of time![]()
