Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a V6 VR S Pak for my daughter from a guy who had done quite a bit of work to it and we needed to replace the gearbox which we did, we just got it rego'd yesterday and have started to drive it around when after about 10mins driving we noticed that the two hoses ( I think they are the Transmission oil cooler lines where split and was spraying oil out so I replaced bought and we started to drive the car again when will we where driving up hill the orange engine warning light came on.
We pulled over and turned the engine off and turned it back on ( no light )and again after 10mins or so while going uphill it came on again.
The guy who owned the car also removed the Maf meter (maffless) and airbox and replaced it with a Pod filter but I did not notice the missing MAF Meter until we started having the issues.
The car when going uphill tends to lose power and start to struggle as if it can not get enought fuel and I was wondering if because he has removed the MAF this could be causing the car to struggle on the AIR/Fuel mix?
I can not contact the old owner as he has moved back to NZ so I can not even confirm if he ever even had a MAFLESS tune done or just removed it thinking it would make it go faster!!!
Any help would be great guys.
Regards
Rob
check for error codes, theres some posts on here about how to do it, then go from there.
The engine light is probably coming on because the transmission is low on fluid...just a litre can cause major dramas
Thanks I will try that tonight, so if the Transmission oil is low this will cause the car to feel like its under load going uphill? does this mean the tansmission is having trouble del the power due to low oil?
Low oil pressure in the transmission will cause those symptoms, yes.
When the engine light comes on the car is probably going into Limp Home Mode (LHM) which restricts the auto to 3rd gear - its designed to protect the mechanicals when the ECU detects a problem which in your case is probably transmission oil overheating and turning the engine light on. Good Luck.
Hi, I topped the Transmission oil up last night and pulled the engine fuse to reset the ECU Codes but it is still happening, I will run the Fault code trick I got from the forum and see what fault code keeps coming up and advise.
Yeah that would be the best bet mate . Pretty sure its pin 5 and 6 under the dash . I use a paper clip and it will let you know what fault codes come up and it wiil flash 3 times for every problem.
Maf? Didnt know the vr has one. I think the vs were the first to have them.

Yep, I down loaded the info of the forum regarding fault codes and how to check them, by the sounds of it when the guys replaced the gearbox I think it may need a service as we go it from the wreckers and after the oil lines broke and we fixed them we have had the problem.
I will run the fault code thingy Sat morning and check what comes up.
As far as the MAF, I am not sure what you call the air flow meter in the V6 VR's but it is missing and I am wondering if this also could be causing a problem, when you put your foot down even to just excelerate it tends to feel like the car is choking and struggling to pickup speed, if you back off and try slowly it is a bit better but it still is gasping for fuel or air...not sure which or if its the box struggling.
Anyway I will run the codes and see what comes up, if anyone has any other ideas that would be appreciated.

hey mate, once youve got the trans topped up, even if the problem is fixd still check the error codes, its not hard to do, heres the link
Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)
ittl tell you if theres any more issues in the engine that need to be delt with
you dont turn a holden off
you power it down!
for any one who asks, holdens dont leak oil, there marking there territory
Hi all, well I ran the Fault code trick I was directed to on the formun (thanks everyone) and I got two codes 12 & 13
13 tell me there is no O2 Sensor reading and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is a DIY guide to changing this sensor or would it be better to have a mechanic do it?
not sure where to go from here, I have some mechanical ability but I need a little help and a guide how to do it.
Regards
Rob
if they changed the trans they may have forgot to hook the o2 sensor back up, it sits in the exhaust pipe, i think vr only has 1 o2 sensor, it'l have 1, 2, 3 or 4 wires coming out of it. Having no o2 sensor hooked up will cause the engine light to come on and make the car very sluggish you said it's doing and also use alot more fuel.
The VR doesn't have a MAF so it isn't supposed to be there anyway.
