Does anybody know how to identify if I have a deep pan 4l60e?
I'm sure this has been covered a heap before, but I couldn't find anything. I went to holden to pick up a filter kit, and as soon as he told me the price ($89 or something) he also told me that if he had the VIN, he would be able to see if it was a deep or shallow pan.
what year and what series is your VS ? There's about a 95% chance it is a normal shallow pan unless its a series 3.
If you buy the shallow pan kit, when you pull the pan off and get the filter out, compare the length of the filter neck to the new one. If the one off your car is longer its a deep pan.
A lot of Commodores have had reco transmissions fitted over the years so and identification by V.I.N. is a bit dodgy at best. If you car has a heavy duty towpack which was fitted as an option when the car was new then it "may" have a deep pan but normally the deep pan was for V8 models.
Only real test is to remove the pan.
you could also measure the depth of the pan from the outside and compare it to another shallow pan... or post it and i'll check mine if ya want.
deep pans have a step in them verry easy to see before taking the pan off
if its anyhelp my vr s2 has a deep pan but i also have a tow bar and trans cooler so it must have the tow pack as decribed previously bye hako.
shallow pans do not have a step in the pan.
3.8 Series 1 built in 12/95.
It's an ex-gov. car which we picked up second hand at 40,000km (now at 279, *sigh*), and has never had a rebuild.
Aftermarket towing.
I'm not sure about the trans cooler though, I've read about those two hoses that come out near the sump though. I've got those, and one of the hoses runs directly underneath the neck of my CAI.
Thanks for the comments.
