Default wat wrecked car do i need

    hey all!
i wanna do an egine conversion to my vs calais and people say its cheaper to buy a wrecked vehicle to get all parts. now do i need to get a vs or can i get any model that is injected (im converting from the v6 to the aussie 5L)? are all the computer components the same? and as i read on a thread else where it said when converting from a six to an 8 you gotta change the fuel tank and fuel pump? is that right, i mean i can under stand the pump side of things but not the tank surely? cheers for the help pple!

I would get a whole wreck because at the very least you're going to want the better brakes, V8 is a heavier engine which will mean you'll need the extra stopping power, possibly stronger suspension but I'm not sure on that.

The V8s I think have a larger capacity fuel tank.

Its not the capacity thats wrong I`m sure its the set up most sixes have a low pressure in tank pump and high pressure external pump the V8`s have a high pressure in tank set up (or the other way round).
The only capacity difference is the station wagon 68ltrs, and lthe long range option 80ltrs (avalible for all models) sedan V6 and V8 is 63ltrs

Your best bet would be to make a list of all the parts you need - offhand I can think of ECU, Radiator, transmission and maybe fuel tank for the pump difference. Brakes are the same. Add them all up and its probably cheaper to buy them individually than get a whole wreck (also some of the wrecks parts will be wrecked)

Depends where your from, i know here in nsw the engine must be newer than the car, which limits you to VS and VT S1. But check with a local engineer near you. I do know a guy who put a VP 8 in his VR and he still got it passed because supposably its a bit hard for the engineer to tell which model the engine was from as they are all the same. But you dont nessacarily need to buy a wreck. If you can find an 8 in a car thats in poor condition and can get it cheap, you can do a swap of the engines and sell the six off again.

The fuel pumps in the 6 and 8 in VS range are the same as are the brakes the same from v6 to v8 in the vs range. if you're gonna buy a wreck you'll need to buy a VS wreck as you will need to run a vs ecu and engine harness.. VN-VP-VR-VT S1 are all different to the VS loom.

If you buy the parts individually it will add up cost wise... and u will find it hard to find a VS v8 loom and ecu as they are pretty rare.

    u will need

    engine with all accesories
    loom, ecu, ignition module
    gearbox crossmember
    engine k frame
    v8 headers or extractors
gearbox with all accesories and tailshaft
v8 radiator and hoses. + heater hoses
    clutch fan and shroud

and a few other small bits

as u can see a wreck is clearly the easiest option.

???Whats so special about the VS as opposed to the VN/R ones. They were all the same VN/S last i heard. Just thought the VS S3 and VT S1 had a few more bits on them to make them the only different ones

VS S3 and VT S1 had sequential injection, PRE VS S3 had batch fire injection. VN-VP-VR had kickdown cable for auto trans, VS had electronic trans.

I'm doing the VN V8 & 5sp into a HZ, so i don't need all these parts, but i got a whole car for less than the motors are going for.
