    Default VS needs help

Have a '96 VS Series 1 Commodore, showing error codes 46 & 47, have changed ECU. Car starts travels about 10 klms and stops, shuts down, can take between 2 minutes and 2 hours before it will restart. Any ideas how to fix this problem? Thanks.

Sounds like the all too common CAS problem. Next time it stalls pour some cold water onto the cas, if it starts replace the CAS.

    Default Vs stops when hot?

I have a '96 VS that did the same thing, have sat on the side of the road many times wondering why. Then I removed the thermostat from the engine, it has not stopped since. Good luck.

I'd reckon accenstencil is on the money with his post - crank angle sensor. My opinion only but I wouldn't bother messing around - replace it before you get stranded in a vulnerable location - like the middle of a 3 lane roundabout. Should cost less than $200 fitted and much cheaper if you do it yourself.

Yep, classic symptoms of the crank angle sensor failing. I'd replace it asap, I had mine done in the Berlina a few years back at Holden, cost about $150 including the part, plus it came with 12 months warranty. Just out of interest, how many km has your car done?

If the new CAS doesn't solve the problem, it will be the DFI module (the thing the coil packs sit on), the CAS and DFI are very closely related, and sometimes produce the same error code.

i've had that problem before Gail52, but it turned out my fuel pump was cutting in and out... pi$$ed me right off... replaced the pump and everything was fine. so maybe check that too. (i didn't have codes coming up on the self-diagnostic tho.)
