    Default 1994 VR Alaskan white

    gday guys,
has anyone had any luck matching Alaskan white?
I first tried when i put on the vx maloo kit on me ute, and it came out too white compared to my car, even none car people noticed. That was with the paint code off the compliance plate J064, which i applied over a black bumper primer.
The bloke at the shop mentioned there is 2 codes for alaskan white, J064 and 1J064. Apparently the j064 is for a 92 model only, and 1j064 is for 91 - 97.
I had todo a touchup on the bodykit after a repair, so i grabbed more of the j064 and touched it up, and it matched the bodykit but was too white for the rest of the car. I just ignored it and left it like that.
Now i've taken off the kit, and gone back to standard, so i bought a brand new front bar, and thought i'll get the 1j064 paint and try that. The bloke @ the shop instructs me to use a grey primer underneath it, so i used that, and the paint has come out rediculously white.
I'll put some pics up when camera battery is charged, but it makes my car look almost grey.
I'm just wondering if anyone has had these sorts of issues with white paint, or if anyone has successfully matched there alaskan white cars?
Any help would be fantastic, cause the look of this front bar makes me wanna cry.
    cheers
    -Tom

yer its got me totally stumped.
I've got a mate that is going to have a crack at manually color matching it.
If he does i'll be able to get a formula off him. Maybe that will help you out.
I never thought white paint would "fade" so much, or in my case, completely change colour!
    Ya keepin the ute white?

Yeah, i recently repainted my front bumper and my cars paint is Alaskan/Essex white. It came out a lot whiter than the rest of the car, but i think it is because the sun shining on the paint for 12 years has slightly yellowed the paint. I didn't really care though, it looks a lot better than before i painted it.

This might sound weird, but does anyone have any idea if you can speed up the "yellowing" process. I really don't like the bumper lol.

Is yours Heron or Alaskan? Cause j064 is supposed to be alaskan white.

I used holts powerplus (don't quote me on the name, but it's definitely holts) pressure packs for touchups for mine and unless you reflect the light off it you can't tell it's been touched up (first go at spraying and i never cleaned up the overspray) and i use J064

This might or might not help: The difference between J064 and 1J064 is the paint technology used - acrylic vs two pack I think. I am not certain when that change occurred but mid VS rings a bell. The shade should be the same or as close as can be given the different paint systems.

The manual colour matching suggestion sounds the best approach. The paint supplier might have thought to suggest that.

I'm not convinced this is correct. I think they did change from acrylic to 2-pac around this era, but I have purchased both colors in acryllic. The formula for the paint is slightly different, more black in 1j064 or something along the lines of that. I will clarify this when i get copies of each formula.
I'll post em up once i chat to the paint shop.

Any luck with this yet? I'm interested to see the differences.. Looking at a new (wingless) boot and I'm desperately hoping the one I looked at today (VS exec) is the same paint code as my '93 VR Calais.. I forgot to check.. Then again, time in sun/weather etc would've probably changed my paint vs the donor cars..
Regardless, I'm keen to see the differences you find

I found the different "brands" make it a different colour?
I used duplicolor (holts?) ad it was nice and white. But then I used the one from Supercheap Auto's and it was more of a creamy tinge next to the other one. Both paints were used at the same time. I ended up with a two tone spoiler!
The only reason I got two different brands is Alaskan white is hard to get out my way and I have to travel between 3 different suburbs to find it when I need it.

I have a 94 VR and my paint code is J064 too.

Cool, thanks for that info. I'm probably gonna need this boot completely resprayed anyway so I'll leave it to the guys at the spray shop to manually colour match it I think..
Interesting that yours is the J064 code, mine's the 1J064.
