ive taken my car on its second long trip and it has had the orange engine light come on again on this trip, but no signs of problems. it seems to come on after have been driving on country roads for a long time - about an hour. have never had it happen on city roads or anything like that. it did the same thing on the way home and it was changing roughly from 1st to 2nd but fine apart from that. i stopped for 5 mins and started again and all was fine. any ideas what it could be?
Try doing a run of error codes and see what comes up.
1) turn the car off
2) short the black and white wires on the diagnostic plug
3) turn the car to ignition and watch the engine light flash up the code
Also, I think you should be asking the VN/VP boys... similar cars, but you may have the wrong sectionVN/VP diagnostic plugs are on the passenger side I think, near the kick panel. VR/VS plugs are on the driver's side near the fusebox.

i used to have a vp, but have a vr now thats why i posted in this section
grab that error code and see what it is. To clear them you need to take power off the ecu for 10 seconds aswell.
I bet its to do with the TCC lockup, solenoid maybe?
Sounds like one of the solenoids sticking - they usually start sticking and throwing the engine light up on hot runs before failing completely. There should an error code logged.
Mine used to do the same the 1st to second was a violent jolt no fun at all
was a solinoid prob.
just checked the error codes like 8 times and got 12 everytime
Just to confirm, you watched error 12 come up 3 times, slightly longer pause and then code 12 started up again?
I've heard a runour that the backyard fault code read ( pins 5 and 6 ) does not show all fault codes ? dunno which ones don't show but there's possibly a code in there that you can't see , and only the holden computer can help you ... bugger. can anyone confirm this ?
they dont show transmission faults...
i found that out when i diagnosed my trans was slipping
