hey all 2 questions,
1) is the radio antenna (areial) on a 95 vs commodore electric?
2) (if it is eletric, mines buggerd) how do i fix it?
cheers guys
you dont turn a holden off
you power it down!
for any one who asks, holdens dont leak oil, there marking there territory
Can you move it up and down by hand? You cant really move an electric one. If its elec it should have a couple buttons somewhere in the car to move it up and down.
i can move it up and down by hand, theres no buttons in the car for it to go up and down, but i had a look through hole in the door thing and i could see it and it looks like its eletric
so next question, how do i go about getting at the lil bugger to replace it?

If you dont have the up down buttons then it wont have a factory electric aerial. It may have an after market one if its been fitted to it. But you have to pull off the inner plastic gaurd above the wheel. If its a genuine factory one, you can remast them. But they are a pain to strip down and put back together
some factory ones dont have the buttons in side like the vr acclaim and vs acclaim, the buttons are there for adjustabol height like the equipe and calais and statesman.
my mum and dads vr acclaim and there vs exc both have electric arils and no buttons where as my vr equipe has buttons i can adjust the height of the aril......
dose it make a sound when you turn the radio on and off (ie with the ignition) if not the motor may be stuffed and needs to be replaced and be warned they are pricey for a genuwine one. and also the factory mast is arond 80 bucks on its own as well, the std manuel one is like 50 bucks but i like the electric one for when cd's are being played etc i can put it down so it wount get taken off bye a bird.....
easiest way to find out if its electric or not is to look at the top of it.....if it has a silver top then its a manual one, if it has a black top then its electric.
manual ones also have notches in the top to allow a key in there to pull it up when it gets fully retracted
Check supercheap/sprints etc for a replacment mast, i got one for about $40 to suit the factory electric setup. I think a manual one is closer to $20-25 last time i checked..
Somethign that may be usefull to know; my mast was broken, and the motor wouldnt respond to the buttons, the relay would click but no response. After i pulled it to bits to see what was wrong i couldnt find anything so just stuck a new mast in it. Not real sure what i did, but it started working again. I think i may have moved the little gear that has metal contacts on it. >> if it doesnt move, it *may* not be stuffed.
ok ive had a good look at it
it has a black top, and it feels like theres a little spring in the bottom, it dosent make any noises when i turn the car off or on but the previous owner thinks its an auto one, so how do i get the bugger out and how do i replace it?

remove the inner guard.
there is a bolt that holdes the electric motor on to the car, there is also a nut on the other side and you will need to pull the car apart and hold it, its right behind the computer.
un plug it all and remove it, there is also a spade terminal up the top for a earth strap/static strap.
un do the nut on top from memory a 13mm spaner does the trick if its too tight.
than on the plastic looking side remove the retaining screws and the middle nut 8mm socket works from momory. also be careful as there is wires goin to the cover and it sorta just folds back and sits there
than remove the 2 gears one has screws and there other is just on a dowel
than pull the old mast out throught the top.
if your luckey and the cord hasnt broken off you can install the new mast buy pushing it all the way down, make shure it still has its collar on it little matal sleve, if the new one dosn have this than reuse the old one from the broken one.
push down all the way and install the locking nut
reinstall the gears and re fit the cover.
place unit back to the car and bolt to the car.
test before you go any firther and if everything is ok re fit everything else.
i have to do mine if you like i can take some photos. i also have some motors laying aroung here i can pull a part and take some pics of if you get stuck
also if my whrite up is a bit hard to follow than check the how to's there may be a good write up there
your a legend bro, thanks heaps ill give it a crack, some photos would be great as well!!
