Hi, can someone give me a cheap cure to help stop the wearing inside edge of Left Rear Tyre. The Tyre is only 8 months old, is on a VS Statesman IRS. Have replaced tyres & set at 30psi. Front tyres are wearing fine. Is it a common problem? as I Have seen similar wear on an SS? Also whats the cure for brake dragging on front disk,is it is only minor? New brake line or replace rotor, it doesnt make noise or smoke...minor wear on inside edge only...Cheers.
How cheap is cheap?
Camber kit is around (maybe less) $200 from what i remember. Other than that, theres not alot you can do. VQ/P- VT series I have a shit IRS design, which is prone to the wearing of the insides.

Get a 4 point camber kit, front at rear. Also get a touring tyre or a tyre with a stronger designed edged.
Had a wheel alignment lately ?
I have a VS acclaim, IRS, and the back tyres wear perfect, 15 inch, get at least 60000k's out of them ,RE92 or the like. 30 PSi is too low , try 35. Brake drag is probably caused by sticky calliper slides or seals. You can either buy a calliper rebuild kit for about $10 a wheel, or just buy a sachet of permatex calliper grease for $2. Clean the old grease off the pins and apply the new stuff , works well.
dont forget ve lol when will holden learn............also how is the shocks and springs, if it is lowerd than it will allways scrubb out the inside edge of the tyer.
also all holden irs diffs has no camber adjustment's only had toe adjustment if your luckey enough to have the arms to adjust......
Hmmm come to think of it i noticed something similar on my car today, both my rear tyres are due for replacing but when i was pumping em up today i noticed that the left one had more wear on the inside than the right. And thats with 16" rims on stock suspension with IRS.
pretty much the only thing you can do is install a camber kit.. and that isnt a cure.. it does help though.. if its standard height the camber kit should be able to get it almost perfect... if its been lowered then you're always gonna have alot of camber... ive installed a camber kit in mine and its alot better but still pretty bad... i was thinking about pulling out the trailing arms and cutting them and changing the angle and re welding them to suit the height of my car...
also if your left side is worse than maybe the spring has sagged or your shock is ****ed or your bushes are worn... could be time for some new suspension components... maybe go to a good suspension place and get it checked...
so anyway from memory camber kit is around $150... you can put it in yourself though you'll need a press to press the old bushes out and the new ones in.. i built a press as im always in need of one when working on cars and shit lol..
and once its installed if you do it yourself take it to a good suspension place to get a full wheel alignment... and when i say good i mean take it to a place that does it properly with the instruments they fix to the wheels and the monitor that tells them the exact measurements and angles and stuff.. its the only way to do it properly... about $60 for wheel alignment.
Adam.
ive seen cars with about 1.5deg+ of negitive on the rear and found the control arm bushes to be worn out (inner ones near the diff housing and tail shaft)
when commodores are lowered with IRS the camber becomes more severe, therefore more tire wear. Camber kit will fix the problem. did for me![]()
