hey guys,
my fuel and temp gauges have started to work intermintantly.....
some times it will say i got a full tank or half or the right reading but most of the time it says its empty same with the temp gauge???
they arnt flickering so i dont think its the earth wire.....
any ideas would be helpful?????
cheers!
It most probably will be the regulator in the cluster behind the speedo. The solder joints crack and stop the gauges from working. It's a take the cluster out and pull it apart job. Then soder up any cracked joints to fix it up.
temp fix for each time it happens it to tap the top of the dash, needles should come up then. But do what 88greenVN said and it'll be fixed. Search the forum and there are instructions on how to do it.
do you have a aftermarket tachometer installed, i had a similar issue in my VY and it was the tacho drawing to much power from the cluster set- just a thought
bring it to me at Gaugeworks and i can fix it if you get stuck, cheers
SIR LS1
the two ton go kart
ill try take the cluster out.... depends how difficult it is dont realy know much about the electrics but ill give it a go!! if not ill take it to davecunno!!
cheers all!
The fuel gauge in my VS Berlina does the same thing. I read all the forums pulled the gauge out of the instrument cluster, but it looked nothing like what has been described in other forums.
Are the gauges in Level 3 instrument clusters different?
All I saw was a piece of wire coiled round a rod and either end connected to the two termminals. Was I looking in the right spot?
Sorry, my mind must be blank - what does PCB mean?

Don't know about the temp gauge but i had an issue with the fuel gauge in my old vs. When you first got in and started it the needle wouldn't rise.
My fix was to hit the top of the dash above the headlight switch which made the gauge read, figured something inside the gauge was sticking.
The fault was intermittent so i didn't bother to investigate any further.
Well I am amazed
I pulled the cluster apart again, and found the circuit board in question. All the soldering looked absolutely perfect. Figured since I went and bought a soldering iron I might as well use it, so I melted all the soldered joints and added a bit more for good measure. In the past few days my fuel gauge has worked perfectly 100% of the time. Previously I would have to tap the dash ~70% of the time.
I can't tell you which joint was the problem, but it appears that you were spot on- hopefully it lasts
I have been really slack, I have known about this fix for a while but haven't done it as yet....
You guys are convincing me to get my finger out!!
