    Default Rev limiter?

    Hi there,

I have noticed recently that when I rev up my engine over about 5000 rpm, it goes coughing.. like miss firing.. (reeeeeeev..cough!...cough!)

I demonstrate this to my mechanic and he said that's the rev limiter kicking in. I personally have issues believing him straight away... Wouldn't it just make the revs stay under a certain speed instead of making the engine to miss fire like this?

    What do you guys reckon.

Sounds normal to me. Best way to describe it is 'mang mang mang mang!'

Not 100% sure.. What is the factory threshold level set for it? 5000 or 5500.. I'll go double check tomorrow when my neighbors will be out..

Does yours does it too? Mang mang mang?

if you have your shifter in 1st gear it will autmatically shift into 2nd, but it will hit limiter in 2nd gear, so if your just driving in D (drive) you wont hit limiter at all, My limiter on my vs v6 hits 5500rpm. only in 2nd gear though.

Not sure if its different for an auto but a manual vs will rev to 6250rpm before the limiter kick in. When this happens it just feels like you've suddenly turned the motor out it should'nt cough and feel like its missing.

I think the factory rev limter is a bit over 6000rpm, maybe 6200. The engine should spin freely without carrying on right up until the auto shifts to the next gear. In my Berlina you could wind first out to 5900rpm and then second would shift into third bang on 5500rpm.

Apart from sounding thrashy about 4000rpm, it shouldn't be misfiring or anything like that at all.
