Default Big box directly under airbox.

    Hey all,

Was under the car havin a look around, found a big grey box like thing mounted under the car directly under where the airbox is. It has VDO stamped oin the bottom, just wondering what it is? Is it something to do with the speedo?

I know the one you mean,to me it seems like something to do with speedo/controller somehow or the airbag (if it has one),but anyways, ive been thinking the same thing.

Nah, it's not the windscreen washer jets thing. It's just behind that. It says VDO on the bottom, which leads me to suspect it's something to do with the instruments.

While on the topic of windscreen water ****ers, mine always takes a long time for the water to come out. I have taken off the hoses and blew some compressed air through to clear out any crap. I can hear the pump going, but it still takes a while for any water to come out the windscreen ****ers. And its not good for dry wiper blades to run over your screen a dozen times before the water starts.

Anybody else experience this or know what I should do to fix it ??

I was wondering the same thing.

You must have a leak somewhere for the water to run back down. Or the washer pump is buggered.

Unless it has changed from earlier models, in the hose that connects between the bonnet and the washer pump, near the bonnet end, there should be a (usually white) plastic 'connector'. Inside that is a one way valve that is designed to stop water draining back into the reservoir with the pump off. You might try seeing if that is leaking.

the starner on the pump will be blocked with goo from the windex or washer addative used

only way to clean it propley is to remove the pump and clean the goo off it, there will be a plastic rubbery strainer that sistes around the pump and housing, i just put a big hole in mine and no more worries

I will have a look at the 1 way valve and will take the pump out for a look and clean.

ahhh that makes a little more sense.

woteva was explaining something here but serves as a timely reminder not to find ways around the swear filter. People are generally pretty good here so cheers to that.

    but i digress....
