hey guys.
i was replacing my fuel filter this morning and had a look at my diff.
just above where the tailshaft joins the diff with the 4 bolts.
there are a few scrapes on the body of the car.
only thing i could think of is
1. i had too much weight in the car and it was too low so it hit.
2. one of the uni joins etc is broken in my tailshaft.
thanks again for all the help you guys have given me![]()
could possible be the spaces on the centre bearing mount are in the wrong spot, leaving your tailshaft out of alignment. any other scraps along the body where the tailshaft runs?
grab a straight edge and just verify that the tailshaft is straight, although you would feel a rumble throughout the car if hte tailshaft was bent
ahh i dont think the tail shaft is bent.
its probably because i split it in two when i done the manual conversion
and i forgot how it goes back together.
i really need to get some pictures on where abouts it goes. then it should be all sweet.
because im pretty sure its out of allignment
None of what you're saying makes sense.
Trust me, you would know if one of your uni's were broken.
There are physical stops that would prevent the tailshaft hitting the floorpan if your car was 'loaded up', providing you haven't removed the rubber bump stops.
If you have had the tailshaft unbolted off of the yoke, then you could have cause these marks without realising it.
ahhh the joys of liveaxle loweringyes its probably because your to low/to much weight in a low car...
same thing happened to me :P... all i did was tap that section a bit with a hammer and painted over it..... last time i checked it was fine(i know, a little dodgy) lol
is the uni joint in line of the scrap mark? the nuckle thats bolted to the diff flange.
unless you hit a major major bump and bottomed out causing hte tailshaft to hit the body. looks fairly recent too.
yep same thing..... see that little rubber thing thats on the bracket above the diff?
that bumpstop is probably worn which is what is letting it hit the floor... you could do what i done, abit didgy to be honest but it worked![]()
(dont smack the shit out of it lol, big hammer with small taps)
hmm it doesnt really bother me i was just wondering what caused it
cause i reckon my tailshaft is out of whack
It happens alot with manual Toranas, enough to wear holes in the floor, The diff twists up under power and grinds on the floor. I haven't seen it happen on a Commodore before though
same thing happened with mine except alot worse, but i guess thats what you get with ultra lows and 4 people in the back. i just raised the back end up a lil bit, also panhard rod seemed to have helped with that and other scraping issues..
i have my exec sitting on bump stops, and i've noticed when i floor it, it hits the body, and does exactly what happend to haydes car. it doesn't do it now, because its gouged a rut in the floor pan, just like haydes.
nothings wrong with you're tailshaft mate =]
