    Question Replacing V6 water pump

    Two questions...

1: I need to replace the water pump and have looked through my Gregory's manual. Looks pretty straight forward. But do I need to use any gasket sealant on the new gasket? There's no mention of it in the Gregory's.

2: Is it necessary to use loctite (or similar) on the water pump bolts when reassembling? It says so in the manual.

    Cheers.

id use some sort of sealant on the bolts as im pretty sure the big bolts screw into water gallery's in the block so the sealant is there to stop the coolant from seeping through the threads

Gregorys doesn't mention using a gasket sealant as its not needed but sealant is needed on the bolts to stop the bolts seizing when coolant seeps into the threads.

upto you, ive always found doing my cars the few times i didn't use any gasket goo the water pump gasket leaked before the water pump ever died. Since putting a little gasket goo over the gasket it seems to help the gasket seal and last longer. You dont need much as you dont wanna get it in the water, just enough to help seal the gaps so water dont rot the gasket and leak out.

I bought the new water pump and some Permatex Blue RTV gasket sealer today. Just wondering if the gasket sealer would be suitable for the bolts instead of the loctite. I just want to make sure I do the job right the first time.

Thanks mate. It's not coming loose that I worried about. It's stopping coolant seeping into the bolt threads that others have mentioned that worries me.
