Hi everyone
Just had a quick question I couldn't find the answer to with the search button. I have a 95 VS wagon and when I unlock the boot I can't take the key back out.
Like I'll turn the key to unlock it, then push the button in to open it and then i have to turn the key back to lock to get the key out. Its kinda annoying because I can't leave the boot unlocked and I always have to turn the car off and take the keys out of the ignition to get the boot open.
Is this normal or is there something up with the lock?
I dont know about the key issue, but does the wagon have the button in the glove box to unlock the boot??
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.
Mine has central locking so I must admit I have never tried. I will try later today. To answer the second question, the button in glove compartment appears in the sedans only.
That is normal - the owners handbook says: "the tailgate can be unlocked with the master key. However the key cannot be withdrawn while it is unlocked - you must turn the key back to the upright (lock) position before the key can be withdrawn. This ensures that the tailgate will be locked when all doors are locked"
The tailgate on wagons without central locking works as above all the time.
On wagons with central locking the tail gate can be left in unlock position but if the car is centrally locked and you use the key to open the tail gate without operating the button the key can only be removed in locked position.
The same applies when using the glove box key if you don't have the electronic key.

The thing is I always unlock the car using the central locking and I still have never been able to unlock the boot and take the key out
Do you think something could be stuck in the lock position? Maybe a wire not getting to the tail gate?
All VS Commodores have central locking fitted standard (AFAIK) and the previous post of mine was a quote from the official owners handbook which you get when you buy the car new. Your description in your first post (Like I'll turn the key to unlock it, then push the button in to open it and then i have to turn the key back to lock to get the key out) is exactly as it should happen: <you must turn the key back to the upright (lock) position before the key can be withdrawn> A
As stated above, you cannot unlock the tail gate and leave it unlocked with the key.
The central locking actuator may have burnt out and not operating the tail gate.
If you pull the trim off the tail gate you will find the central locking actuator.

Thanks for all the quick replies...
