Question Police Pack Computer VR II Com

Hi all, just fitted a new computer to my VR, Went to the wreckers and bought a computer that had "Police Pack" written on it for $40 bucks, Woot . The reason I bought it is because for some weird reason my VR II would drive perfectly fine, sweet as a daisy, then drive it upto 100Klms and back down to a stop, drive off normally and it gave me harsh gear chainges from 1st to 2nd, etc. Mind you if I turned the motor off ( ignition ) restarted it , perfect again. Hmm....... then I rang a bloke up here in Brizvagus whome built me a sweet G/Box for my SS VT II, He said, "my thoughts", Computer.

OK, so here we go back to the computer story, it has a difrent plugs to standard plugs for the VR, Basically to use it ( Police Pack Computer ) you have to file lugs off ( keyways ) for it to fit, basically smooth, one side of the plug, Both plugs. Then I installed it ( Hot swap, Battry Connected ) and the car now runs like someone has strapped an extra cylinder in the motor. Now, one thing fixed and now started a new issue, at 100Klms I now get the engine light come on. No effect to how the car runs but gear change is nice ( fixed that issue ). My guess is I should have disconnect the battery before the computer first, right?

I have searched the forums on Computers but only come up with basic stuff like mod chips, etc. Can anyone give me some info on the Police Pack Computers? I am completely amazed with the power and performance but I need to know if my problem was doing the ( hot swap ) battry connected, which now is giving me the engine litght. Normal round town stuff is fine, just when you hit the dollar mark ( 100klms ) on the highway after about a minute " Bling" the light is on.

Eventually I come to a stop ( as we all do ). One option is to restart the car, all is back to normal and no light. Cruise all day fine untill I hit the Dollar mark ( 100k's ) again."Bling", light is on.

Finally, searching again, I have not found the answers on "how too" Reset/reboot your vehicles computer all fresh.

Could someone help with these couple of questions?
Any help would go a long way, Thank you.

    Cheers.

i think you rev the car to 3000rpm for 8 seconds.

    or was that something else?

I beleve you are somewhat partly correct. I have read in the forums it is also advisible to switch on the aircon to help the computer reconfigure itself.

However this does not give me the answer I hoped for. This would be after the fact. I need to find out how to completely reset the computer and start fresh. Then do the above m8.

    Taa.

Ok, further searching gave me How to find codes and how to clear the computer in this thread below.

    Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)

Now all I would like to know is what is in the Police Pack Computers that make the car so alive, responsive?

You won't find anything in the 'Police Pack Computer' that's different from a standard unit. It's all in the drivers head. Probably find that the original computer was faulty/malfunctioning and the replacement has restored things to 'standard' hence the perception that the vehicle is performing better.

True, Police pack computers did absoloutly nothing different, the tunes were different, but they take those tuned memcals out when they sell the cars off. The wreckers seem to think that because the computer came out of an ex cop car, it did something amazing. There is only so much power you can get out of a tune, which isn't a huge amount.

But they cops take the tunes out when they sell the cars off and replace them with standard tunes. By the way, it's the memcal that gets tuned, not the computer.

the police never had special racing tunes but...

so if youre interested in buying a "cop chip" i can get them for you for $750 each, but theyre very rare as they are always removed before sale but i can get them from my mates uncles friend who gets them from the girl who lives across the road from the lady who babysits for the bloke who walks the dog for a man who knows someone that gets them from the secret cupboard in a factory that does all the police secret hot rod work and his brothers wife once actually saw someone talking about a chip in a police car & they said its true.

Dr.Bob replied and there is no gain what so ever in the cop computer only for the exception that they have better shielding for radio interfearence and any gain that I may have noticed was due to the reset of the computer.

Thanks guys , my questions are answered. Enjoy the thread if you wish to keep it going.
