I seriously need some help
I have already search and read through all the links you have on ur site and found no help or hint...
VS acclaim oct 95 -km's 250000 plus
so maybe about 252000km, the odometer stopped working early last year but the speedo still works!
passenger side (well thats were it sounds like its coming from) we can hear a air sucking noise, vacumm leak or something, its not the big blackpipe!(i dont know what its called im female!!)near the window wiper filler.
puting ur hand on the pendulan chamber lid seems to muffle it but there doesnt seem to be any leaks hubby checked it for cracks and the like and put some gasket goo stuff on it, he is fed up with it and i need it fixed so any suggestions would be great.
There are no errors coming up in self diagnostics
prior to replacing these following parts these were the problems
*(sputter when ever you put ur foot down(hard or soft))this problem was going on for quite a few months and hubby said to me its the way you drive it but when he needed to drive it it still did it!Lol
*making a hissing noise(radiator hose)
*wet altenater
*sounded like the motor was purring( not a normal pur)
*wouldnt start (battery) then altenater.
*abs light coming on
In the last 3weeks he has replaced the following:
altenater
battery
water pump(water was coming back up the radiator but nothing wrong with old pump!)
top radiator hose
fuel pump
spark plugs
leads
all 3 coil packs
steering rack(the shocky looking thing with teeth in it!)
I think i have got to evrything now!
so if anyone has any ideas mainly on the vacumm sucky noise it would be greatly appreciated
umm
cracked vacuum ball, or a cracked hose to the vacuum ball under the very front pass. side of the car?
like on the passanger side, between the front bumper and front wheel, underneath.
Dont know about your sucking might be vacuum lines on the tb or there are vac lines behind the glove box or what vn luke said ,but the odometer promblem is the little cog has died ,plenty of threads on that one
O.k thanks guys...
I rang a mechanic and spoke to him over the phone and he said it sounds like the plenum chamber lid(under the plastic cover) has anyone heard of this problem?
girlfriend??????
Research has shown that men usually sleep on the right side of the bed.
Even in our sleep we happen to be right.

Id place bets that your air cond doesnt work either...
(gas is low, hence the noise)

A plenum chamber usually holds pressurised air which a Commodore does not have (unless its supercharged!) - maybe the mechanic means the vacuum ball reservoir mentioned above. There are plenty of vacuum lines around the engine and bulkhead which can have a split or may have been dislodged although the noise isn't usually that noticeable. If it is a large vacuum leak you aircon and heater direction dials will not work. Try using a length of garden hose as a stethoscope to track the location down. Good Luck.
sorry guys my hubby relised what i had written!
LOL!!
Anyways...
he has tried the hose thingy and yes my air con does work very well actually!and the direction dial works too.
When he puts any pressure on the plenum lid it seems to muffle it.....
The problem with the red wire at the back of the altenater(in another thread) could this have any effect on any other part in the car that could produce my current problem??
As of yesterday it started playing up again after 3yrs when he fixed it last.
Yes he triple checked! he also put some red goo stuff on it and lock tight on the bolts, it doesnt appear to be warped and it doesnt rock.
he's wonering if someone with a vs could take their plastic cover off and listen to theirs and see if any presure from your hand placed on the top(near the throttle cable) of it muffles. When he revs its(not red lining it!) it sounds like its chocking and the vacumm/sucking noise will get louder.
If anyone has any ideas please post them as we are getting desperate......
Kids are back at school next week and i have no car!
Thanks in advance
another idea is to get a can of "start ya bastard"
and spray around all the joins that you think could be leaking.
if the join is in fact leaking, the engine will pick up in revs.
once you've found the definate source of the leak, you can go about fixing it...
