Default Hit a Kangaroo This morning - Do the roo whistles work?

Ha, hit a Kangaroo this morning, bloody skippy did a backflip, got up and bounced off.

The main point of the thread though, is do the roo whistle thingos work?

I think i'll put a set in when I put a new front bar and bonnet on, just think I only had the car sprayed less then 12 months ago, allready ive been rear ended and now a bloody roo :P

Oh yeah anyone in Vic want to donate a rubens red bonnet? im all ears.

We had sum on a old Lada 4x4 we still had em jump out, main thing is they need a certain speed to work, then be loud enough to project foward to let skippy know ur comin while ur doin 100km on a crappy rd.

I say there about 50/50 sumtimes they jumped away as u seen em, other times they just jumped across ur path.

U hittin big reds or just lil wallabies, the wallies i recon it worked alrite on, not all the time but most. big roos they just dont care.

Bull bar or even a nudge bar would be the go, just line em up good.

You know Calais, I have been offered about 10 roo bars to suit a VS over the 3 years ive had it, I wish I didn't knock them all back

They are just little bitch skippies, not massive 6 footers, only see them near our property, which I only do 40-50kmh around that area, this was on the hwy, was just entering the 90km zone and was still doing 80 :P hit the picks, had some retard in a ford ute sitting up my ass (About one car length) atfer having allready being rear ended recently with my new spray job a four wheel lock up was not an option.

Sending skippy off to do some ballet at around 40-50kmh was though :P cheaper this way.

Have heard they work but only for a while. continued use damages the reid in the whistle and wont produce the correct noise

i had them and didn't hit any when i was doing lots of roo mileage. But a friends car that didn't have them also didn't hit any yet there were always roo related accidents on that road.

    inconclusive i suppose.

probably attract them.... it'll create a vortex and suck them into the front of the car.

Yeah I never thought of that, I don't think they'd fit through the CAI.

Theyre not that expensive so it probably wouldnt hurt to put one on. I put one on, at some stage it fell off, havent hit any yet touch wood, with or without the whistle.

Dannyboy, from what i hear, it's very hard to find any body parts in rubens red.
I have a rubens red VS and i've been looking for a new bonnet, rear quater panel and rear door for quite come time now and yet to come across any decent ones.
let me know if you find anything?

Bloody roo's, me and a mate were travelling to wagga wagga from melb, doing about 90+ and this little fuc*er came out of no where, but it was only his tail that hit the car, left a nice crack in the front bar and smashed the headlight out.

still scary though, something thats always on my mind when going bush.

Best thing you can do for Kangaroos is drive a bit slower and have good enough suspension that you can swerve sharply at speed without stacking . I've hit a large one at 90km/h in the VP but was lucky enough to hit it low and right on the number plate, VP bumpers stick out pretty far so no damage apart from broken bumper clips and stuff like that

you should never swerve away from a kangaroo just keep the car straight and aply brakes without locking up most times they jump away anyway

Cheers RVN, Yeah the suspension isn't too bad in my car, its sitting on super lows, all the bushes are new, it has the upgraded Z bend link pins in the front, a strut brace and some pedders sports rider shocks, I think they spell it ryder though, morons.

Anyway, I have lived in an area with Kangaroos all my life, i'm actually used to them, oh well that **** up is going to cost a few pennies anyway, thanks for the help in regards to Kangaroo whistles guys, and for the support
