Was digging around the wreckers this afternoon and told the bloke that I needed a new computer for my VR II. I only bought one recently which was a ex~police unit memcal #BHND5613 and installed it trying to fix another problem ( long story ), didnt fix it anyway. So this arvo I thought to try again. I told him I needed a later model VR II type. So he said " go have a look in the yard", to which I did but no luck with a later VIN than mine 11/94. I asked him if I could open the computer boxes up in a huge bin he had to find the later computer as I have noticed they have a year date stamped on the side of the memcal e.g. 93xxx,94xxx,95xxx. The bloke said, help yourself.
So through the dumpster of VR Computers I go. After opening the 8th computer ( carfuly putting them all back togeather as I go ) I find a memcal in one that has a fueltronics memcal. Cant miss it, it has a big green sticker on the chip thats soldered to a pigyback board unlike the standard memcals saynig Fueltronics VR Auto.
Itching to get home and surf as much info on the fueltronics memcal, I come up with little, except they cost heaps and Powerchips gives you, the driving enthusiast, a quick, easy way to unlock your engine's extra power. Special software is used to improve air/fuel ratios, re-calibrate timing curves and remove speed limiters. You get more power, crisper response and improved drivability.
I fitted the memcal and all of the above is true. Hows that for pure ar$e. Or call it luck.
And it didnt cost me $700 for a mod chip.![]()
good find man

sweet, wonder if you can copy it.......... lalalala
The old fueltronics ones go allright, The rumour is Powerchip bought them out back in the day and that's why they don't exsist anymore
i rekon thats what used to be in my ute before the foam had his way![]()
hehe foam the 'BUTCHER' in a good way of coarse
Yeah I would have loved to find out more on the chip and what it is set up for, some info on the net would have been great. Either way I am impresed with the cars performance, midrange & driveabillity now. Also interested to see how it stacks up to a weeks worth of fuel for around town back and forth to work. I am not really a lead foot and drive mostly to the conditions. But when I fitted it I had to try it out, My old VR II has only done 184,xxx ks and is in good nick.
My guess is the find is worth gold for a VR owner who wants a chip. I have no idea what they are worth and what types you can get but in saying all this its definatley made a "noticible" diffrence .
P.S. Thanks for the words Greenfoam, that is reassurance hearing that comming from you.![]()
