Hey,
Quite often when i use the brakes a warning light lights up.
But my brakes and brake lights work fine.
The symbol is tough to explain like this. ummm.
Its a red light with a circle - inside the circle is a " ! " symbol. And theres a couple of lines below it.
Whats it mean?
Not the brake fluid level is it? Not sure if these have a sensor for that or not.
Maybe when you are applying the brakes it is drawing enough fluid out of the res. to trigger the sensor.
check the fault codes, do a search on it.
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.
thats for the globes
If it's anything like the Kingswoods, it might just mean that your brakes are wearing down. There's a "Brake Fail" light in Kingswoods that simply means that the brake pads/rotors are worn to the point that when you hit the brakes, the light activates because the calipers have to go in a certain distance (I think, don't quote me on that one).
It doesn't mean that your brakes would stop working, it just might mean that it's time to replace a couple of things.
Having said that, it could be fluid or bulbs.
Alrighty then, Thanks for the input guys.
Ill keep an eye on it.
If you have the owners manual the explanation will be in that.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
Sounds like the bulb fail light, meaning that one of your brake lights or tail lights is stuffed. Maybe get someone to stand behind the car whilst you depress the brakes to see if anything isn't lighting up.
I have a similar problem.
When i drive at night, the light comes on.
When i brake, it goes out & stays out for a little while.
I posted up the same Q a while back.
One of the forumers gave instructions as how to clear the fault.
Sorry i can't remember how to do it, but it was simple.
Cheers, Col.
on standard cars, the light will illuminate on brake fail. i experienced this when my brakes werent bled properly. very spongy pedal and had to pump the brakes to stop.
on the Caprices, the above applies, but it also warns for a globe out. if your brakes are working fine, as others have suggested, its most likely a faulty globe
Are you sure? I just checked the owners manual, and the brake fail light is separate to the bulb failure light. There is the handbrake warning light, then the brake fail light which only illuminates when you are actually cranking the engine over, not when you turn the ignition on ie when the rest of the lights come on, and then there is the bulb failure light which is different again.
yeap the
handbrake light: is red, the letter P in a circle with brackets around it
brake fail: is red , with a ! in a circle with brackets around it
the bulb fail light, now im not 100% sure lol
It means a light bulb is out . . Which one? you will need to find it . Could be a number plate bulb blown ? I had the same problem. Red light with an exclaimation !
