Default Price check please. Isle 5

G'day all, my son is looking at buying a VR.

I am wondering what a reasonable price would be.

VR Exec, HSV tagged. Dark blue, completely stock looking outside.
No leather or anything flash inside either.
355 stroker, Dave Bennett alloy heads, roller rockers, receipts for 15k engine, manual T-5.
Overall, car is in good condition.

    Thanks in advance.....Col.

Cheers m8, i dont have pics.
It looks the same as any other blue VR with hsv rims.
The sale is private, not internet.
I asked my son about ur R33, but its not what he is after.

    Cheers, Col.

    He is 20.
I will take him over for a look tomorrow.
I think he really wants a SC400 soarer though!

So he does not want to live?
This may come as a surprise, but not all kids are unreliable ********s!
Both my kids are level headed!

The question is still on the table, is the car worth 8k?

    Cheers, Col.

i'd say no, without the leather and looking pretty stock, without pics that's just my guess
(you buy HSV because they are luxury...)

but VR SSs are going anywhere from 5k to 12k.

i'd try to knock him down a bit, but that engine sounds off it's chops. so that's a plus

Sorry - this wont help your price check at all.

But I'd definently go the stroker. Soarers sound like my computer when its running a disc. lol.

Wow wish my dad was cool like you, my dad gave me $900 when i was 17 and I had to sort myself out hence I had a shit car. Let your son choose w/e he will thank you for it later.
Is it his first car? one thing to think about is resale value lots of younger guys want a new car every week. I know what I would choose :P
The VR sounds like it would be worth 10k in mods alone but it maybe hard to resell it if he wants to get rid of it. Doesnt the Soarer have a psycho 2-jz or something similair and can make massive power?

I hope your aren't in Victoria. If your son is 20 he will get reamed by the cops for driving that.

    Thanks for the replies lads.
Fortunately my son can drive V8's on his liscence. Whatever he buys will definately be a V8.
This will be his 3rd car, but his first V8.
I'm not keen in the soarer/lexus, but it's his money.
He knows better than to show up in a fraud! I would disown him! LOL
The VR belongs to a good m8 of mine, i know what is inside the engine. I have worked on & driven the VR over the time my m8 had owned it. Approx 5 yrs.

I guess i am a little concerned at my boy having a 355 for his first v8. That is probably the parental instinct coming out in me! LOL

I spoke to my m8 yesterday, he is asking 8k for the VR.
I figure the car [in stock trim] is worth 3-4k. The HSV build plate doesn't seem to add any collectability.
I figure the engine is worth the same, so 8k might be a reasonable price.
I have made an offer.....now we wait & see if he takes it.
My son had a look at it last night. I will take him over for a better look today.

    Thanks again.....Col.

The HSV build plate is worth nothing. It doesn't make it a real HSV, and you can buy those build plates of Ebay very easily. And yes the car is stock form IS probably worth the $3-$4k mark providing it's clean etc.

Engine would be worth more than the car itself i reckon. Not by heaps though, but i'd hold the engine at a higher price personally than the actual vehicle.

I would personally pay $8000 for a clean VR with a 5.7 litre under the hood. Nice clean looking sleepers are nice. Not to mention it would get up and boogy obviously from the 355 cubic inches of grunt under the hood, but also from the weight of the car (which is sweet FA compared to a HSV, Calais etc).

I'd definantly pay $8000 for it.

Dirty, who cares, as long as the panels are straight and the paint is nice and clean (as in not scratched and chipped etc). Put your son through a defensive driving course a few times so he knows what to do when that 355 decides to kick out sideways in the wet one day for example.
