Hey,
I bought my Caprice off my cousin a couple of months ago.
He had it advertised for a while, and ended up selling it to me for $12,000.
Im now wondering if i maybe payed way too much??
Its a genuine HSV Caprice and had done 180,000 ks at the time, its in good condition inside and out, with a good head unit, 20's and an awesome exhaust system. Here's my "my ride" thread.
95' VS HSV Caprice
Let me know what conclusion you come to. Cheers.
If you are going to keep it for a few years - no you did not pay too much for a top of the line Holden with heaps of micky mouse stuff in it.
If all the car is in good nic and not butchered at all - should hold it's value.
Nice car by the way.![]()
With original rims, it's easily worth $10,000It's in excellent condition, so I don't think you've been "ripped off". You could have picked up something cheaper, but you know, you win some you lose some.
But yeah. Worth more without those rims I think![]()

Ive had a look at a few ls1 wh statesmans for 12 grand, one had 88 thousand on the clock, maybe you could of shopped around?
According to Redbook a '95 HSV VS Caprice with an average of 210,000 - 350,000 on the clock is worth $9,400 - $11,500. So no, you probably did okay.

i had a look at yours in the forumsthe one with 88,000 was pretty neat but you could still note a few things here and there but no biggies. I also saw a few that were quite bad for such a new car...

**** no thiso mdel is the best looking caprice
I'm not certain on the build numbers, but i dont think there were very many made.
It's very hard to find a VR/S HSV Statey, even harder to find a Caprice!
I dont think you paid too much m8!
Nice car!........but then, i am biased!
Who cares if other people think you paid to much. Are you happy with it?
I personally wouldnt be as i just bought a WK Caprice for $11,500. 12 months ago i bought a WH Caprice for my girl friend for $10,000. Work out the difference. But as i said, the main thing is, are you happy with what you got?
Others opinions dont really count mate. It does look like a nice car.
Thanks guys. Yeah i am happy with it actually. There are a few things here and there that i need to touch up and improve, but that just gives me something to look foreward to i guess. So yeah...i guess i could say that to me, it was worth 12 grand, because i enjoy having it as my car.![]()
Ive tried looking at how many VS HSV Caprices were built. Cant find any info.
Anyone know where i could find out?
I saw the figures a few years back.
Dont quote me, but it was less than 10!
For some reason, i think 6 VR, & 4 VS.
Like i said......not many!
Seriously? :my:
Geez, if your telling the truth, thats pretty bloody cool. If anyone has found these figures that coolngroovy spoke of, please let me know where they are.
I found them in a magazine at the local muffler shop! LOL
It was one of the performance Holden mags i think.
I took notice because i had just bought our Caprice.
Cheers, Col.
I've seen a cherry red VS Caprice HSV with a manual transmission behind it! Now THAT would be rare!!

12k is a bargain with those kms. I bought my stato, with 135 000kms on it, sunroof, full leather, full service history. the ppl had it advertised for $12,500 i offered them 10k and they took it, it even came with rwc, and 10months rego. In the last 4 yrs beofre i had got it, it had only done 24 000kms.
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.
If you had picked one up cheaper, you most likely would have picked up a few problems as well. At least you know the recent history on your Caprice and know that it was well looked after (well i assume it was, as i don't think you would have purchased it if it wasn't).
Knowing a decent portion of the history on it and knowing it was well looked after my your cousin, is worth the few grand extra in my opinion. Buy one off a complete stranger, then they tell you it's been looked after, there is the possibility of more than a few grand's worth of stuff wrong with it that needs fixing.
So in short, no, $12,000 for a clean VS Caprice with less than 200,000 on the clock isn't a rip off.
