    Default Question about roof linen

I am about to change my roof linen as it is sagging very badly.. i Have looked in spotlight for a new material to use instead of the original one but cant find anything close to the original linen.. anyone know of any places you would be able to find something similar to the original linen?

I am in the process of trying to decide whether to do this myself or get a professional to do it. I have been quoted $230, and I just have trouble parting with that when I can do it myself albeit a fiddley job. Maybe I should do what K. Rudd wants and inject my hard earned into the economy. Take a look at:

HOW TO replace headlining - Very detailed

With regard to the material try Nolan's: Nolans - Home

They sell the proper foam backed stuff with a few different colours. From looking at the catalogue I think that "medium opal" is the best match for my VS (it is hard to tell - maybe "light opal"???) - not sure what you think but you can download the catalogue.

I have contacted them and are very helpful, although they sell mainly to trade but if ask nice enough they will sell small amounts. If not they will definitely put you in contact with someone who sells their products.

    Have fun!

Thanks heaps mate. I strongly recomend doing it yourself... Paying $230 to do it, imo thats way too much... It actually doesnt look very hard at all.. Just need a 2nd person there to help you out

ask your local upholster what they will charge if u take it out and clean the board up and put in back in yourself,i have done a vn sedan,vn wagon and now my vs sedan.for the sedans was charged $110 each basically i dropped the bare liner off and picked up few days later..trick to removing and installing is put one front seat forward and the other all the way back(think off memory the passengers seat goes back and winds down onto back seat)which ever seat it is that goes forward the liner comes out that back door.good luck..hope this helps

I'll try that when I put mine back in...

Any hints for getting it back in? or basically just the same but in reverse?

    On the topic:

For redoing the headlining yourself, it seems that Quickgrip is the glue to use. I have done some reading and it seems the water based version has high heat resistance and does not emit bad fumes - Sounds perfect for the headlining.

What are other peoples experience - What have others used?

Also do you use the contact method. I.e. cover the lining and the board with adhesive wait until tacky, other then put them together. Or do people generally cover the board with glue and lay the material on while the adhesive is wet?

I assume the first method gives a better result but sounds much more difficult.

I has to take a different approach as I used a thin material (Satin to be exact), so if very flexible and flimsy....But I used your everyday run of the mill Fabric Adhesive, and just sprayed the cardboard 'a lot' then put the fabric on it....The hardest part for me was keeping the creases out...
