I just purchased a 96 vs bt1 5.0L and wondering if anyone has encountered any major problems with this model as it is my first vs. It has a brake shudder and needs a few busches in the front end but otherwise ok. I have been told z busches but after reading a few threads I think it could be warped discs, does this sound right. Any input would be a great help, so anything you may know or heard of please let me know. I hope this gets read bye the right people as I am new to this!
next door neighbour has 2 of them, and has had no problems at all...The good thing is, you know for the time they were with the cops, they were fully serviced (nearly fortnightly).
The only down side...it doesn't have the unicorn blood ship like the super 6lol
Thanks for that, but I dont get the unicorn bit?
The part about the warped discs is the same thing as what I had when I bought my VR BT1 I`m positive yours is the same prob, when buying rotors
go slotted or drilled (or both) or a VT upgrade as I have that (VT brakes now) and regret buying a set of standards and then later on (12 months) deciding on a upgrade. I`m trying to save you from double handling and money as an upgrade is a wise move from the get go IMO.

Thanks whiteknight, the brake upgrade is a great idea as I already have bigger brakes front and rear on my vy ss and they are great! Thanks again
I get it now Lightning, there is nothing super special about my vs
You will have, FE2 suspention, wiring that goes nowhere, two drill holes on the outside top of the centre door pillar and ABS.
You may have, 80 litre fuel tank, LSD, 200km/h dash with little increments.
You ,may (being a QLD cop car) have the 185kw upgrade the way to tell is iff you have the HSV CAI and extractors, therefor have the magical special type, lol. they do exist..
if not you`ve got 165kw of untammed snap oh yer..
Yes it does have fe2,strange wiring, abs, 200km/h speedo, cai and a fairly large fuel tank but no extractors, lsd or irs(which i thought it would have) It was supposed to be from WA originally. Either way it will still be a lot of fun to cruise back and forth from work in as it is a very winding and hilly road with next to no traffic when I am on it.
Sounds to me like you need new discs n pads. Should cost like $300 and if you shop you will find slotted disc's that are cheap. They work better and look better. Doing some steering bushes and a wheel allignment would be a good idea to. The shudder should be gone then. You may with slotted disc's feel, and hear like a 'ggrrrrr' noise. Nothing to worry about, its just the slotts over the pads.
Hope this helps mate.
Thanks vsjunkie you just awnsered most of my questions. I have already done some looking around on the net and the pricrs are pretty reasonable for both brakes and suspension parts and so on.

Well I do most of the work myself thank god!!
Though during the small amount of work I get done by pro`s I ever find someone treating my car like that then its mouth at the sump plug for that MF
You're right in terms of how the cops probably didnt give the car a harder time then your normal enthusiast. But the car would have been given a flogging alot more often than a normal enthusiasts car. When they do flog them, cops dont flog them any more than a normal person would - but cops get to/ have to flog them alot more often.
