hey guys just wondering a few things for an lsd.
1. will i have to change the pin thingo. the one that hooks up to the diff centre?
2. the shims and bearing carriers? are they the same from single spinner to lsd?
and lsd oil any reccommendations?
or any special oil people run for a spooled diff?

only 1 i can answer is you dont need any special oil for a spooled diff, just the single spinner stuff![]()
a spooled diff and a lsd are 2 diffrent things lsd will reguire a diffrent oil spooled diff will not
and no unless its worn or you are changing the ratio
When you say "pin thingo" do you mean the pinion gear? If so then no you dont have to change it as long as you swap the crown wheel over from you single spinner centre to the new lsd centre so that you keep your original crown wheel and pinion together as a mated pair and dont mix them around. The shims for a single spinner and lsd are physically the same, however may be different between different diffs, i.e slightly thicker or thinner from the factory to get the correct mesh between the gears. As a good start that will be fairly close to the mark, when you install the new lsd centre do it with the shims it was previously installed with and on the same side of the centre too as they will likely be a diferent thickness to each other. Also as a general guide, when you remove the diff cover plate, grab hold of your crown wheel and push it up and down as hard as you can to feel the knock and backlash between the gear mesh and take note of this as you want have the same amount when you fit the new lsd centre. The tapered roller diff centre bearings between lsd and single spinner are the same on a live axle diff. Most diff oils on the market are pretty good so alot may come down to your budget/preference of a particular brand but make sure it is specifically for limited slip diffs. Personally I run all Penrite oils in my car and am using LimSlip90 in my diff with no complaints. If the diff is a little worn a thicker grade of oil may help to quieten it down a bit.
