Ok, about a week ago i replace all my lifters in my vs commodore and installed mace 1.9:1 high ratio roller rockers. my car has now developed a ticking sound, much like that of a collapsed lifter only much more quiet and can only be heard from underneath the car, also, the car is running a bit sluggish. What could it be? i have double checked the tightening of the rockers and it has not gone. does it constantly, cold or hot. The only thing i can think of is one of my new lifters is stuffed, please tell me this is not the case? what else could be making this sound!! im out of ideas.
the new lifter may need time to blead up, a short drive may fix the issue but worse case is is a dud lifter. good luck finding the right one
What grade of oil are you running and does it continue to do this once it warms up? It sounds like one lifter is not working properly so I would remove your rocker covers and then start the motor and watch carefully the amount of oil coming out the top of each rocker arm. After a few seconds of running all rockers should be pumping out a good amount of oil that is even across all of them. Note this will get a little messy after a while as oil will eventually run down onto your exhaust manifolds. The rocker arm that has a significantly less amount of oil coming out of it should hopefully be the one connected to the culprit lifter.
what lifters did you put in?
new procomp ones from the US.
thanks cander, will give that a try. im running 15w40 valvoline engine armour. is this too thin?
i have comp lifters in my car and find they are a little noiser that stock. but thats just the way they are
